Just arrived in my inbox - headed 'get out the tissues'
Thought it worth posting for you all to read ...
Hope You all have a safe & merry Xmas.
(and hope wind picks up )

On the last day before Christmas, I hurried to go to the shops to buy the gifts I didn't manage to buy earlier. When I saw all the people there, I started to complain to myself: 'It is going to take forever here and I still have so many other places to go...'
Christmas really is getting more and more annoying every year.
How I wish I could just lie down, go to sleep and only wake up after it was over.
I started to curse the prices, wondering if kidsreally play with such expensive toys. While looking in the toy section, I noticed a small boy of about 5 years old pressing a doll against his chest.
He kept on touching the hair of the doll and looked so sad.
I wondered who this doll was for. Then the little boy turned to the old woman next to him: 'Granny, are you sure I don't have enough money?'
The old lady replied: 'You know that you don't have enough money to buy this doll, my dear.'
Then she asked him to stay here for 5 minutes while she went to look around. She left quickly.
The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand.
Finally, I started to walk towards him and asked who he wanted to give this doll to. He replied 'My little sister'
I suggested to him that maybe SantaClaus will bring it to her.
But he said sadly. 'No, Santa Claus can't, but Mummy might.'
His eyes were so sad while saying this.
'My sister has gone to be with God. Daddy say that Mummy will also go to see God very soon, so I thought that she could bring the doll with her to give it to my sister'.
My heart nearly stopped.
The little boy looked up at me and said: 'I told daddy to tell mummy not to go yet. I asked him to wait until I come back from the supermarket'
Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing.
He then told me: 'I also want mummy to take this photo with her so that she won't forget me.' 'I love my mummy and I wish she doesn't have to leave me but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister'
Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly.
I quickly reached for my wallet and took a few bills and said to the boy. 'What if we check again, just in case if you have enough money?'
'Ok' he said. 'I hope that I have enough.'
I added some of my money to his without him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll, and even some to spare.
The little boy said: 'I asked yesterday before I slept for God to make sure I have enough money to buy this doll so that mummy can give it to my sister. He heard me'
'I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mummy, but I didn't dare to ask for too much. my mummy loves white roses .'
A few minutes later, the old lady came again and I left with my trolley. I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started. I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local newspaper article 2 days ago, which mentioned of a drunk man in a truck who hit a car where there was one young lady and a little girl. The little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a critical state The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-assisting machine, because the young lady would not be able to get out of the coma.
Was this the family of the little boy?
Two days after this encounter with the little boy in mind, I read in the newspaper that the young lady had passed away.I couldn't stop myself and went to buy a bunch of white roses and I went to the mortuary where the body of the young woman was displayed for people to see and make last wish before burial.
She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her
hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest.
I left the place crying, feeling that my life had been changed forever.
The love that this little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to that day, hard to imagine.
And in a fraction of a second, a drunk man had taken all this away from him.
Christmas would never be the same for him again.

(Yeah I know - got me too )
SO - Thinking of Drinking this Xmas ?

More Xmas folklore, if the above didnt make you sad enough:

The story goes that some time ago a mother
punished her 5 year old daughter for wasting a roll
of expensive gold wrapping paper.
Money was tight and she became even more upset
when the child used the gold paper to decorate a
box to put under the Christmas tree.Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift box to her mother the next morning and said, "This
is for you, Momma."
The mother was embarrassed by her earlier over
reaction, but her anger flared again when she opened
the box and found it was empty.
She spoke to her daughter in a harsh manner.
"Don't you know, young lady, when you give someone
a present there's supposed to be something inside the package?"
She had tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Mummy, it's not empty! I
blew kisses into it until it was full." The mother was crushed.
She fell on her knees and put her arms around her little girl, and she begged her forgiveness for her thoughtless anger.
An accident took the life of the child only short time later, and it is told that the mother kept that gold box by her bed for all the years of her life.
Whenever she was discouraged or faced difficult problems she would open the box and take out an imaginary kiss and remember the
love of the child who had put it there.

Hey you don't need to be drunk!!!

Don't think it was much more than 12-18 months ago a kid was killed in Dunkley Ave near Lucky Bay. There's a bit of a memorial along there now.

Just remember speed kills as well. So next time you're in a hurry to get to the water think about what could happen if some kid chasing their pet or ball comes running out in front of you.

My 2 cents...
Not wrong about no need for alchohol,
I am a newbie and out of interest took a look around Lucky bay after reading a few threads about it.

Here's the thing I have a young family and thought initially it would be a sweet place to bring the fam and be part of it.
WRONG. On closer inspection the place is a traffic nightmare! Why do one lane twisty roads with kids and dogs everywhere inspire wannabe Schumaker WRX and 4WD drivers to piss all over other's safety for a quick hero-boost at ridiculous speed for the conditions???? We all shake our heads and laugh at idiots who take out a 16m in 25+knots don't we?? At least theyre not carrying a half a ton of weight at 80kms p/hr!

I am not at all surprised that there has been a fatality around Lucky bay - waiting to happen again any day too I reckon. What was one of the contributing factors? Possibly the plethora of illigally corner and half-verge parked 4WDs etc with kite/windsurf stickers everywhere, making for blind corners with 2-way traffic and very little visability.

Hey we all love a cosy parking spot but at someone elses child's safety? If your'e strong enough to kite a little walk shouldn't hurt too much now should it big guy? (or big girl?)

Do the righty and think of the bigger picture sometimes, not just "me, me, me how can I get in the water as quick as!" There are worse things than missing a few minutes of flight or a parking ticket when you ditch the car in a stupid selfish place, as that poor kids family found out.

Kiting is fun but breathing is better... have a safe silly season and enjoy the taxi ride home (now they are dangerous!!).
Cheers,

I live in AppleX, a street back fron Melville Beach Pde,

- The kid was run-over by an elderly driver, nevertheless, the amount of traffic is a nightmare on a windy day. We can all do our bit and slow down, usually is the very young guys driving like mad: guess what, they are usually rushing to get a spot along the footpath! Moral, slow down, be corteous and yes watch out for the kids and the elderly people crossing the road and walking the footpath.
