Silviu, The reason for doing the hard tricks close to shore has many reasons.
Safety for rider and gear- a bigger margin for recovering riders boards or kites close to shore before they end up half way to freo.
Easy relaunch- when you're trying the hard stuff, there's a good chance you're gonna spend some time relaunching your kite, this is a whole lot easier if you are close to shore in waist deep water.
Conditions: trying those top end moves requires optimal conditions, rough or choppy water is going to worsten your chances of stomping something big, its not rocket science to see that the best place for that is close to the beach.
Claim factor! Call it showing off if you want, but no-one is going to believe a claim to a big move unless its been seen. And why not show it off? this is kiteboarding- not cricket..
Get used to it guys, we're all hell bent on pushing the popularity of this sport, its gonna get busy!! and somehow as soon as anyone gets to a reasonable level of riding, they all feel that they are experts, and everyone else is a kook.
I know heaps of people who've been riding for less than 2 years who talk like they invented kiteboarding, and spouting off their opinions of who's kooking, and getting in their way etc...
Its time to acccept we're all still learning, we'll all kook it from time to time, and everyone deserves their space and time on the water. No one should have preference because they're better, older, been riding longer or whatever other reason.
Having said that, I can't understand why so many riders just content with cruising and simple jumps would want to come and join the circus on the flat side, there is a whole empty bay on the West beach, and countless other locations around Perth!
The flatside of Woodies is a world class piece of water, get used to seeing touros, euros, and others down there, bring it on!!
Personally I love to see the action, see what the overseas riders are doing, and mixing it up with all my fellow kiters,
cheers, and see you at the big top
