A mate from works parents came out from england. Walking along marcoola beach, saw two guys flying their kites, not out in the water just doing jumps and spins on the sand. So they walked around them when all of a sudden one of the fools does a jump and lands on my mates mum. OMG your such an idiot. exactly what this sport doesn't need is people like you. So as any husband would do the old man (65) gave em a mouthful. Then one of the young fellas shapes up to the old boy!! you coward. The life guards saw what happened then come running down only to see they guys pack up real quick and take off. One of the life guards got their number plate and the old boys made a complaint to police. And apparently there is a petition to ban kiteboarders from most areas on the coast especially in the coolum area.
Two young guys in their 20's driving a commodore.
I'm looking for you now to have a little chat.

most probably cus they didnt realise that the douche bags would do something like get airborne and fly into them. if you do a good one [beach jump] it can be 30 foot down wind easy, depends how hard the landing you want to experience is. hitting anyone that's not a kiter themselves is ****ish behaviour, hitting another kiter is also really stupid but its unlikely to get you banned.

It's a beach, why did the kiter jump on the beach? People walk on the beach which is why they were there... and if the guy jumped high enough to land on someone's mum, then we all know HE must have flown to the "kill zone"; shows what a wally he was and how little awareness he had.

What would have happened had he landed on a child? No bloody wonder people want the sport banned with idiots like these around.

Are there no written rules for kiting in Australia that other kiters can enforce instead of this sort of thing happening. When do kiters start to take responsibility and tell people doing this sort of thing that it is not legal and that they are killing the sport for others?

Hi Guys,

Beach jumping is LAME! It is the easiest trick in the book, it requires no skill and has a large "look at me" factor to it. Therefor it appeals to the lowest common denominator.

Beach jumping should not be practiced anywhere others can see you. If you want to beach jump, and occassionally we all do it, but it is where and when that makes the difference.

If you are an experienced kiter and can boost a 20 foot beach jump on the beach and land softly most of the time, great, but demonstrating it to lesser skilled persons is a recipe for disaster. Noobs are easily impressioned and will copy this sort of behaviour if they aren't taught properly.

Please set a good example and do not beach jump, and please have a word to the people who do and let them know it isn't wanted or cool to show off in such a basic fashion.

Good winds and sorry to hear about the incident in Marcoola. Bummer!

was down at brighton today and beach was packed with swimmers due to heat. nice little breeze. most kiters walked upwind to where they normally sail and were doing the right thing staying away from swimmers. but just like usual a couple of morons wrecking it for everyone this one guy was boosting airs right on the shore in the middle of swimmers and sometimes jumping over swimmers a complete knob and then weaving between swimmers heading back out ready for his next show pony move. i ve just started kiting and when i see these things happening it really pisses me off. i understand that these guys kite here all the time but commonsense its the holidays heaps of tourists and if you walk up 100m south theres hardly anyone in the water. Swimmers were around before kiters and some people seem to forget that, like i said most people doing the right thing just a couple of idiots with their heads up their ass

I hear you, informally the Maroochy counsel are looking to ban kitting @ Maroochy Beach & the river in 2009. Due to public liability, especially concerning the caravan park & tourism.
So I am working with the Maroochy & QLD life guards, I am looking fore kiters That would be interested in doing a 1st Add course for free & beach rescue with the life guards, so that we can be called upon to help rescue the public if asked.
So we are a positive & service to the beach & public.
When the counsel act, we will have some pull.
Will you help me preserve the sport on this beach.

Man, that is so annoying - I know all of the Mudjimba and Marcoola locals and none of them would have done something like that - it must have been someone from another part of the coast or out of town.

Bugger off and do it on your own beach before you close mine...

Hi Mojo,

that sux about the maroochy council wanting to ban, as you know we have just gone through this in noosa, we knew the maroochy council were hoping noosa was succesfull but they werent, now we will be having this super council soon and the same people who want to ban you will surely try again here.
If you need any help in let us know, talk to Fiona from Adventure Sports as she is currently doing a risk assesment for council. Or ring Matt Colefax at M8 as he has piles of paperwork hell gladly let u use. Get in contact with MSQ and a guy called Peter Klenig, he is head of marine safety and will gladly advise how to stay in their good books and not allow the council to take control of the waterway. Rally the kiters get in the media for all the right reasons not the negs.
Right now we have the lifegaurds, coast gaurd and general public supporting us here. And in the words of peter klenig himself, their was no way they were going to support a ban of kiting with nill reported incidents to MSQ!!! So find out if maroochy has any reported incidents.
It turned out the noosa council were trying to ban us without any solid cause.

Good luck

we need some kind of dingy that can transport noob kiters to bribey island so they can do all the sand jumping, kite crashing, beach dragging, ling tangling they wish without having to harm innocent people in the process. I do feel for learners a bit because there is no real place they can go to learn to fly the kite and be 'disasters' without endagering people. we need like a desegated learner zone with supervision.
