I have to go to New York with my wife in April 2006.

As a trade-off, get to go somewhere else for a week's kiting.

Any suggestions/knowledge/experience as to a quality spot (for both of us she doesn't kite) with wind that time of year.

Wife will be spending all our money in NY so somewhere inexpensive would be nice!

Obviously, aware of Cabarete, but ...

I can't give you in-depth knowledge about any of these places, but it's a good place for you to start to do some research:

Cape Cod, Massachusetts (Very close to New York. I've been in April before - off season, so relatively cheap, but cold!)

Cape Hatteras, North Carolina (East coast, so relatively close to New York, but further South so warmer!)

South Padre Island, Texas (mmm, big spring break spot and I do believe spring break spans March & April, so you might be dealing with inflated prices and A LOT of drunk uni students!)

Not sure about specific places in Florida, but I'm sure there are places and it would be warm. (Same spring break applies to Daytona Beach and Panama City!)

And of course there is THE GORGE - "Mecca" of windsurfing/kitesurfing. Hood River, Oregon, which is on the opposite side of the country to New York.

Those are the big places I know offhand. Sorry I can't offer more detailed information, but hey, it's a starting point.

Here's a win win for you and the missus,

Hawaii! Wind in Oahu is good this time of year until September as is Maui only stronger.

And best yet, it's on the way back

Hey jjd,

With the exchange rate at 0.776 it's not as exxy as you would think. Check it out!

Kailua Bay is fun and of course tropical water with 15-20 knots wind, boardies and rashie, coconut palms, sandy beaches, no worries about tides, Green turtles Plenty of kite shops etc.

Check out this property in Lanikai where you can walk to the beach and kite all day.

I found this with a quick google search, I'm sure theres many more just like it.

Kailua or Lanikai for chilled peaceful village life and best beaches in Oahu, or Waikiki for nightlife, shopping big hotels etc or Haliewa for Pipe, sunsets etc, no kiting and very touristy, no surf that time of year either.

Or Mokulaiea for wicked strong wind and waves, skydiving and gliding but nothing else.

Hope this helps you.
