the other day, the wind was blowing at 9-10 kts. and i was able to go out on a venom 19 and a borrowed home-made skim board (i weigh 85kg). this board was basically a thin piece of fiberglass-laminated plywood with footstraps and a grab handle. it looked like a 5 year-old kid had drafted the plans for it. and it was heavy!

it was really slow going - somewhat like kitesurfing on a large esky lid - but what the heck, being a novice, i still enjoyed it. so... now i've gotta get me a light wind board for winter. any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Caveman, Sorry for my lack of knowledge about the Venom and foil/arcs. How does your Venom water relaunch?
And if the wind totally drops how do you get back to shore when you kite is in the drink?
Can you lie on top of a foil/arc and paddle in or will it deflate?

having dunked my venom in the drink a few times, i can say that it's been easy to water re-launch. just a tug or two and back up it'll go. haven't been caught out there wherein the wind suddenly dies and the kite goes for a swim. i guess i'd pretty much have to swim back while towing the darn thing.

Main problem with large foil in light wind is if the wind gets up!
I have a 15.5 warrior which at 85kg will get me going on my directional longboard in ~ 10kts. If the wind picks up much then it turns into a power mad monster with a mind of its own. In my experience this is most likely to be a problem if there is rain about because wind either drops or picks up during showers with obvious results
