Just wondering on your opinions on the best make/brand kite for doing wake style unhooked trick? Currently riding 09 rebel whick works well but wanted to know what else may be better. If anyone has tried any of the 2010 kites would be good to know too!

Cheers

Anything that does not turn too fast and sits back a bit in the window. More drag = more ability to build line tension = more pop = more fun

Think the Flysurfer or Peter Lynns would be great for this! [}:)]

If thats your main aim then yes a C kite is still your best option. Something like -
- Vegas
- Fuel
-Torch
-Hadlow Pro

But you wont know if "C" is your thing unless you try them, so get out and demo some kites

I must comment on the title of your post...
Since a memorable day some years ago when it was announced by 'Big Rich' that he was today going to try some of that 'Un-Hooked Sh1t', that is now the only way I can imagine it being said. That or UHS... It took me a while to realise what we were talking about !!!
But any (modern) kite being used by top (competition) riders would probably fit the bill - after all, that is what they spend their lives doing !
So I'd have to agree with 'Ewan Kite' and suggest a 'C-Kite'...

thats a better list...
PS word on the street from people who actually ride wakestyle said the slingy RPM is better for wakestyle than the fuel.

what i think you might be referring to is "freestyle" with the twirly wirly kite spins and stuff included. in this case i think you will like a fuel hadlow. maybe lf hifi.. or if u can hold on for a while catapults C should be ready soon

and no to cab! with the exception of like 4 cab riders i can think off from the top of my head all they do is get in the way and tumble around in the surf ruining your line up for a good kicker!!!

If you are new to C kites stay away from the Hadlow Pro. Even Pat Goodman (Cab designer) said that these kites will kill. There is no depower at all, you need to use your board to work the gusts. Great kites for Hadlow not great for average punter.

thats a crock of sh!t. plenty of punters around riding them. kites dont kill because they dont have depower... only if you are a d bag and you use them completely above their limits maybe. having to use ur edge to control kites is a VERY VERY good thing! it teaches you how to edge properly so when you start unhooking you will pop properly instead of half arsed.

cab designer bagging a flexi kite... hmmm im sure there was no alternative motives there at all...

when you are unhooking you are using your kite at full power 95% f the time anyway because when you start depowering them they feel like shyt when you unhook. i ride "depowerable" C kites but i leave them trimmed at full power all the time, never adjust the trim because there is no need, short bar throw and im still alive.. and im also one of the most average punters floating about.

I'm backing Charl on that call. As soon as i switched to C's I instantly stopped playing with the depower trim, ever. The awakening to the fact that there is more depower on your boards rail that you'll ever have on your bar is priceless.

i got a sneek peek at the 2011 prototype of the North Dragon.
i must say that i thought it was a very slick kite, pulls hard through the loops and best of all 100% at the bar depower. but, one thing which let me down is that it is not one-pump. so it takes a while to pump up its tail.

pick i took of it below:

Charl,

Why did you cross out Torch and Vegas for wakestyle? Reckon they sit too far forward in the window? Maybe, but it doesn't take much to set the kite a bit further back in the window before you unhook? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts because I love my Torch 12m unhooked even better when I've got quite a bit of depower on. Looking at upgrading my 9m this summer and thinking another Torch or Fuel or maybe even VaporIII

@ Charl.

Your KL s-bend (avatar pic) probably indicates you may be a touch better than an 'average punter' - as you indicated.

i love beer should probably realise that many crew have a loyalty to one or two particular kites.

My advice - try before you buy.

if you're a decent 'average punter' you should be able to throw down unhooked tricks on most kites.

If you're trying to knock Andy Yates of his throne however - or get your switch mobe 7 dialled - then kite choice may play a more important role....

if you read the description of being C kites. they are hardly C kites. THAT is why i crossed them off. torch is a nice kite and all, cant fly worth a damn on 4 lines. it doesnt have the same "feel" as a real C kite anymore either. same applies to vegas except it does fly on 4 lines but its hardly a C shaped kite anymore..more like some crazy hybrid-c cross breed, and same applies its lost the traditional feel.

they also do sit abit forward in window and id rather have a kite that just sits in the right place instead of having to make it go there.

my post was just a punt at the C kite thing nothing serious.

dude thats just a straight out sbend.. barely a hard trick at all. not too sure where you get the idea of a kiteloop from? i dont do kiteloops kite loops are old. might jsut look deceptive because i try to ride with my kite at a respectable angle

and yer with the kites today it doesnt really matter whether your on a C or not you can throw down on any kite SLE or C.. i might even switch to SLE next season for the sake of more convenient launch in bindings. with the older gen bows with their 50 pulleys were crap to unhook on. C just gives u a bit more slack in lines when you pop.. and thats only when you know how to pop for it anyway so90% of riders dnt actually benefit.

Aaron did the best ever mobe 7 in Coche back in 2006. Going about 1000000 miles an hour with the kite super low.
I think this is better than a 'legit low mobe' haha going about walking pace with the kite a little lower than Aaron's mobe 7
If the wake guys want to do a real mobe they'll have to up their pace to over walking speed and pretend there is at least some risk in doing a 'low mobe'.
