Going up to Coral Bay for Christmas,
A few questions for the locals:
How far off the main road is Gnarloo on the way up, would love to score a surf up there although I realise it isn't peak season and the flies might turn our holiday into ground for divorce.
Can I make it in a conventional car (not 4x4)?
Do you need to book if you only want to show up to spend the day but not staying overnight?
Is it worth the trouble?
Is one day hanging around Monkey Mia for the kiddies sufficient to fulfill their Daulphin interaction needs?
Any kiting around coral bay? can you name any suitable beach so I could ask for direction when I get there.
I assume that there is no surf that far north?(I would think it is cut off by the reef?).
That's all folks, any assistance with the above would be greatly appreciated.

2wd will make it but you have to drive really slow and it's not a good idea. My mates commodore made it but couldn't be used on most of the surf tracks.

Just got back from there in our 2wd, we were pretty worried because people had said 4wd only, No problems at all (I guess unless it rains) I got the feeling people were trying to put us off going there ;-) as for going really slow, yep took us around 4 hours from blow holes on the way,,much faster on the way back after someone gave us the advice to let the tyres down to 25psi and drive at 50 instead of 20, believe it or not you dont even feel the road and it was way less of a beating on our van...

i'm sure your focus wouldn't like getting there. but it would get there. unless it rains, then forget it.
the people mover would be fine.
1.5 hrs drive from carnarvon, less given you're driving. beautiful beach at 3 mile camp and lagoon for snorkelling / swimming so the kids would be entertained.
if you go that far you'd want to stay at least one night.... it'll be bloody hot
