Had a guy at the beach yesterday with an old 2line converted to 4line kite. I noticed he had his harness hook upside down?
I asked him why and he said it was a carry over from his windsurfing days. He actually came unhooked and had a bit of a struggle to get back in as it was cranking.

I mentioned it later to a pro rider and he said he had seen it done before and some like it better. I can't see why - has anyone else seen or actually do this and why?

I had the hook other way around in mid eighties, as at the time the boom (bit that you hold on to in windsurfing) was about chin high when standing on the beach, the only way to hook into your harness line, was to hook upwards, you were also not able to unhook if you are to high up, make sense?. Any way all past and gone, as boom level is usaly shoulders today

Kiting is all about personal preference just ride however you feel comfortable.

I think that this topic has no meaning without someone first defining which way is the right way up ??

Is the glass half empty or half full? It's the wrong size!

How ever you bought the harness would be the manufacturers definition of the right way up.

What if the guy in the shop turns it the other way up?

I don't know about kites, but if a bicycle shop sells a bicycle with the back brake on the right and front on the left they used to be able to be fined.
