Has anyone tried this setup or know of any reasons why this may not work:

* Assuming line lengths are equal
* obviusly using it as a 4 line setup ( so accept relaunches would be more difficult ) but would be interested if anyone can offer any advice.

LOve the kite but Hate the bar setup.

I reckon you just give it a go and see what happens! Worst case, death loops and being dragged up the beach and across the road!

Lay the bars out side by side and check the line lengths are the same with the bar in the same position - i.e. fully powered up.

You will obviously lose the 5th line functionality of the Fuel.

Not sure what the Fuel will do if depowered too much.
Make sure you have a kite leash attached to a flagging line (in the absence of a 5th line)

Otherwise there should be no problem.

Why not look at trying a 5 line setup from another kite. Some kite shops will sell demo bar and lines for around $300 or so.

Thanks sunseeker,
I will lay the lines out this arvo to check the lengths if the line up will try it out tonight ( pray for wind ).

If it doesnt work, I will try your suggestion regarding other fifth line bars.

thanks for the input

I'm no expert as i've never even tried either kite... But my mate flew a fuel that was a year or 2 old just the other day using bar and lines from his switchblade 3. It all worked fine.

BUT remember that because of the shape difference, when you let the bar out whilst hooked in this will only depower the fuel a little. After a certain point the back lines will go slack and the fuel will still be holding a fair bit of power as your two front lines are attached close to the LE wing tip (instead of a bridle). so Imagine it like this... you're flying the kite by the front wing tips only meaning that the kite can sit in a position where it holds a lot of wind rather than letting it easily flow out the back of the kite as you sheet out.

My mate experimented using a small fuel which seems sensible.

As the fuel will hold power even when you 'sheet out' I suggest you hook your safety leash to one line (I think there is a ring on the right hand back line for cabrinas by memory). so if everything goes wrong, release so that you are only joined to the kite by 1 line. Hope this helps.

Smedg is correct, and his advice is wise.
However I can assure you it will work.
Just don't assume the fuel will depower when you push the bar all the way out.

You could move the overide collar on the centre line towards the chicken loop by about 10cm or more and lock it off with the overide clip, to get an "on the knot" tune for the fuel, and then just take the overide lockout clip off when you use the SB.
