Hi, I'm after some advice if possible, heading your way in Feb/March time (from Scotland) and am going to Sydney, Melbourne (staying in East Ringwood I think) and Perth area. I'm hoping to squeeze in some kiting, probably only in Melbourne and Perth areas and would appreciate any advice you've got.

Kite:
I'm hoping to only take my 9m atom due to size. Will this be enough (not expecting out every day(girlfriend won't allow it ))?
It's getting me going fine in about 18-20knots here.

Board:
I'm thinking about just buying a board out there to save carrying one out and fancy something new anyway, any reason not to do this?

Wetsuit: (or lack of)
Was only going to take a 1mm thermal rashie (just in case) and normal rashie, more to keep sun off than warmth. Sound ok?

Anything else useful I should know?

Thanks for any help.

Hey Kris,

Kite: I assume your about 70+ kg, it's hit and miss with the weather in Melbourne,If it's a non working holiday you'll be right though Perth's a bit more of a hit.I'm 80+ kg's and if it was down to one kite, it would be a 12.

Board: Smart move

Wetsuit: 1 mm should be fine, if needed.

There's are crew going down to a place called Sandy Point near the Wilsons Prom area the week starting 19th Feb, if your in Mebourne that week, let us know. The guy organizing is Tony (Ral Inn) on this forum.I know his just booked a another house there. Wilsons prom is a must see when visiting Victoria, and the other half will love it.

Forget Sydney and Melb., but if you must what the heck. Bring a rubber hat and nice warm rashie top (Flying Objects has a great new one).

Once in Perth get yourself a custom local board from KAOS in Fremantle as a treasure to remember your visit.

Yea, I pimp all the stuff I find good and good value...enjoy.

I'll be coming from single figure water and air temp (and snow on the way) so I think anything's going to feel warm.
I'm even heavier than you doppelganger, that's why I'm a bit worried about the small kite but my 14m Rhino's gonna be too big to bring so I'm just going to have to chance it I think. Think I'm gonna be arriving in Melbourne around the 1st of March so think I'll miss it but plans may change.
Custom board sounds sweeeeeeeet, definately be looking at them if not got anything but if it's windy in Melbourne I may have to buy there. I take it there's a few shops to choose from and their near the good spots?

Final question, any rules or regs I should know about? I'm used to no regs just courtesy and respect for others on water and sailing with few people so don't want to tread on anyones toes.

Cheers again for help. Kris.
