My departure for WA is getting closer by the day and i can't wait!!! I have been checking out all the places to kite on WAKA and Kitebeaches.com but i would like to hear what your favourite kite spots are on the west coast??? What your likes and dislikes are and where i should head when i first get to town.

One thing i can say forsure is i can't wait to try launching and landing on an endless beach. I have only kited i the Gorge and man-made mountain lakes and have never been able to launch my kite on a beach with enough sand to fully lay out your lines!!!

I saw a big white pointer at woodies offshore cruizing around last session. About 3-4m, quite a big chomper.

sanamarco, dont worry, all the spots on the waksa site are just as they say, its cool , dont worry about the sharks, get a shark shield, I've got one and I dont really care about how it looks, I am still learning and am confidently laying around in the ocean knowing I wont be a meal for whatever may be passing by, its getting hotter and the sharks are getting hungrier...

Woodies have electric eels as well which short circuit the shark shields leaving you bait for Mr.Chompey sorry but its true.

The pictures dont lie dude, www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=2556

You guys all suck!!! Now i'm starting to wonder why i'm leaving my favourite kite spots to go and risk my life just trying to get into the water. Wait....now i remember, there is no wind here any more, its getting cold and there is snow in the hills. I would rather go fight a shark then deal with another boring winter of skiing everyday!!!

I think i'll just wait until i get there and go talk with all you locals before pumping up!!!

What is this shark shield thing???

Don't worry about sharks or shark shields.

Only localism rearing its ugly head in a feeble attempt to protect local spots.

Fortunately localism at this stage only appears to exist on the internet, and not on the beach.

Come and enjoy WA

trevor1 chill dude, it's only a joke, surely any person can see what we are trying to do. Woodies is a great spot to kite but the good offshore side which has the nice flat water is also a spot for mainly experienced people who can at least stay upwind and self rescue fairly well ect.

Woodies has 3 beaches you can kite on, 2 of the are onshore and are frequently used by people, a bit choppy but theres wind at least. The offshore side is butter but as mentioned above it can be dangerous.

Apart from that theres kiting on the river which is ok I guess and then theres kiting in the surf in most other beaches. Plently of wind and plenty of spots to share round.

Spacey, that's the greatest photo montage that I have seen. Great electric eels

Here's one of my new discoveries

Spacey, I found the tide very low today at the river also....yes the offshore side at Woodies can be shallow at times, something to be real warry about when doing almost anything...especially jumping.

I am being cautious at the moment as the season hasn't even started...it is still freezing and frontal....we need Summer.

Cleanest beaches = Esperance - no cuts from shells, tangles from seaweed and general public discards but watch for the occasional dog doo doo.

Cleanest water = Esperance (swimming pool owners are even envious) and you can spot the dark shadows circling you from meters away

Some of the coldest water = Esperance – not so bad if chicks are out swimming

Most scenic = without a doubt Esperance.

Voted most recognized beach in w.a. for 2006 = 4th mile the local kitesurfing beach in Esperance. Its probably because of the high caliber of those kitesurfers that it won this award.
