Dear Privileged Kiters of WA....

After many months of frustration of little wind and suicidal traffic, I abandoned Sydney... and have freshly landed on your beautiful shores... (or should I say the grueling drive!)

I am posting to find out what I should know of, or more importantly NOT DO here in your little piece of heaven.

I have a few questions (And add in anything I should be aware of please. I have been kiting for four years, so am able - but not location wise)

I live in Scarborough, and generally trot down to the beach to kite Brighton Beach...

1) Scarborough:
From asking, there does not seem to be much to be aware of except:
Common Sense / Right of Way rules, and stay clear of the Life saving club / flags / Swimmers -- even if that is the best waves. Are those buoys at the back to show no craft access?

2) Downwinders
With great Drooling I watch the guys leave from City Beach / Swanbourne/ Cottesloe and stop at Scarborough - or go to Trigg.
I saw on the WAKSA site rigging at Cottesloe is only per defined area (Am WAKSA Member)

Now doing the downwind - other than the Lifesaving flags and Groins... anything else to look out for - avoid? And do people generally stop at Scarborough... I would assume the Surfers at Trigg do not like to see kites arrive there...

3) Shops:
I am in dire need of replacement of my aging CO2 kite with a well priced SB2. Which shops sell Cab equipment here?

Does anyone know if a shop has old stock of the LAVA kiting sunglasses? I have now had two pairs of Ocean Eyewear and the tinting comes off within a month, doing more eye damage than good.

4) I read a lot about Woodies..? Where is this? and I have done the drive to Lancelin (Looks Awesome)... Any tips on these areas? (Other than don't be a pr!k and cut people off) - when to go/not go

5) What about really good waveriding spots?

6) Kitestock... Is this somewhat similar to MAMBO? A great party with lots of people piling into a small town, no matter if you are pro or leisure rider? It sounds quite cool...

Appreciate any help and advice. Must say, the past 10 days has been awesome and the people really enjoyable!

For the regular answer of "Search" I tried, but (note to Seabreeze) Searching WA in subject headings end up with WAve WAter ****#r etc. (Although WA: Found WA: CPR Course Update)

The beach between Swanbourne and City Beach is is federal land used for the SAS military base. It's open to the public except when they're using the rifle range, indicated by the red flags raised on towers at each end of the beach and also visible from the road on the other side of the barracks. I'm not sure what the exact exclusion zone is during these periods but it pretty much prohibits kiting.

Woodies (Woodman Point, 30 mins south of Perth) is the premium flat water spot in Perth. I don't know much about it but it seems to be a touchy subject around here. Others will be able to fill you in on the details.

if you do a downwinder from south of city beach make sure the firing range isnt active.
the way to tell is if they are flying red flags at swanbourne. if you still want to do the down winder you will have to go out too sea a fair distance to get around it.
also watch out for the nudest beach running north of swanbourne to city beach.
many first timers do the "walk of shame and embarrassment"

Legend! Thanks for the warning - I assume this is a few Grans & Pop's...

Red Flags noted... I left South Africa to get away from the damn guns!

Windsurfing Perth in Myaree do Cabrinha.

Really good waveriding... head south, margs etc and go for an explore

Dont kite all the way to trigg point, its hard to land north of there and there is generally flags near the point anyway, try to stop at north scarbs or the the most southern carpark around trigg.
