they are NOT on - they are going off

WHAT A TOTALLY AWESOME DAY

The dunes full of spectators, the beach packed with even more and the reliable old Doc kicking in early enough to get the comp underway about as early as would have been organisationally possible.
For those looking at coming down tomorrow here's how things stand :-
SUNDAY will see the finals of the juniors ; all rounds of the masters and all but Round 1 of the open mens.
It will be one hell of a days kiting.
JUNIORS - all power to you guys - the competition was super HOT with every competitor giving it his/her utmost best shot. If this is the future of WA kiting then bring it on! Every single one of you deserved a medal today for sure. Serious competitive kiting with plenty of action - it was fantastic to watch you guys - every single one of you busting fully powered up moves. Well done - every heat very impressive.
WOMENS - very keen competition. Sent out in the cranking (up to 30kts) late avo breeze for the final rounds took courage and skill & thats what we saw. No holding back from our WA girls thats for sure. Congratulations to Jess who took out the title in a tough won set of very closely contested rounds.
OPEN MENS - if the first unseeded round is anything to go by we are in for an unbelievable day tomorrow. Every single heat of round 1 was an intense gladatorial battle of BIG gutsy moves. Cant wait.
MASTERS - our (waksa's) one apology for the day. With the promise of running at least the preliminary rounds today every masters entrant stayed till stumps only to have the full series of masters rounds put off until tomorrow. Sorry guys but 'we did the best with what we got'. Every decision made was made with as much consideration of everyone involved as possible.
Look on the bright side - ALL OF YOU have now got tomorrow to look forward to
If they have not collapsed from exhaustion already I hope someone in the scoring loop will post official results & names of qualifiers going thru to tomorrow

IMHO - I reckon everyone, on & off the water, was a winner today.
My pick for Kiter of the Day - Elaine Strueli, my friend & hero, kicked the proverbial big-time in the juniors & proceeded thru in the Womens to some unbelievable level (round 3 I think ?). All that from an almost novice, melville kiter, young lady who thought she was coming down poke her nose into 2 round 1 appearances.
U R da girl Elaine
