Paul McCarthy, a passionate kitesurfer, and great friend to many of us, was aboard the helicopter that crashed in indonesia, last night.

His passion for life, friends, and the ocean were amongst some of his great qualities. He had energy and happiness that was so contagious, and was always going out of his way to help people.

After spending three months helping with the tsunami relief efforts, he returned, looking forward to some epic kitesurfing trips over the winter. Upon hearing the news of the latest earthquake, volunteered his services again.

Already we miss your big heart, and smile.
love and miss you,
Simon and Dawn

Ps. We are thinking of having a bbq at the brighton beach carpark, next sunday, to remember him. and possibly a downwinder from city beach as a tribute, as that was one of his favourite runs.

Yeah Paul will be sadly missed. He was a big guy always smiling and right into life. As well as kitesurfing, he rowed accross the atlantic, (www.oceanrowing.com/challenge/media/TenNews02.htm), was a medical doctor and always thinking of other people.

Shortly after returning from helping the Tsunami victims, he volunteered to go back to help the eathquake victims. His death a few days later was sudden and a cut short his life that he was enjoying so much. A real tragedy.

Paul was a top bloke. I regret not being able to catch up with him before he left for Indonesia after boxing day last year. He was definately one of the friendliest and most energetic kiters who's enthusiasm spread to whoever was around him at the time. It's such a shame for his life to be cut short while he was out there in his prime using his skills to save other peoples lives. We'll miss you paul...

Although we only met and knew Paul for about 24 hours, it was 24 hours of fun, friendship and laughter for New Years in Lancelin this year. He made such an impact on us we were proud to consider him a new friend and were looking forward to catching up with him when he returned from the Tsunami disaster. Life is short everyone - cherish the people around you and make the most of your lives - Paul certainly did and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Robbie & Eve

Simon & Dawn, see you Sunday if it is a go ahead - Paul would be thrilled I'm sure.

When "one of us", a person who saw life like we do, passes it makes me reflect on my fragile mortality. I believe good guys go to a good place.
My condolences to family and friend.

To the family and friends of Paul, the WA Kite Surfing Association would like to express condolences on behalf of the Kiting community in WA.

To those who didn't know Paul, I'm sure it is clear from the comments on this thread that he was an amazing person who lived with the passion and courage that inpires many.

Rest In Peace mate

" LIVE YOUR LIFE AS IF TODAY IS YOUR LAST "

I'm sure we've all said it but Paul actually lived it. To know this is the only thing that gives me a little peace.

What a legend, one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet.

I feel richer to say that i knew him, and that the world is poorer to have lost him.

Rest in Peace, You'll never be forgotten.

Chris & Elesha.

Unfortunately some friends are with us for too short a time and whilst we are left saddened for their departure we are richer for their friendship. Personally I'll never forget Paul's generosity and help giving me my first real taste of Kitesurfing. He lost his life helping other people, there is no greater sacrifice. My deepest sympathy and condolences to his family and friends. Brett

"Each day we live is its own little life"
Paul knew that. Always living the present with passion and a big smile. I'm grateful that his path crossed mine as I got to meet a beautiful soul. Thank you for making our moments together so special. See you in my sweet kite dreams.
