KITING TODAY ON MY LOCAL LAKE WITH A SOUTH WEST WIND ABOUT 13KNOTS ..
THE LAKE EDGE GOES FROM N TO S.... I WAS OUT AWAY FROM THE BANK ABOUT 15Om and the lake is huge... Cruising in the shallows.
i could go nw really good,at a great pace. And in the se a fair bit slower... WHY????
i have noticed this in a few places both ways, wind all directions
why this or did i just sleep on the wrong side last night?

Could be something as simple as wind temperature. Colder wind is stronger than warmer wind due to density.

Let's say the SW wind was more like a SSW wind....
So when you are heading NW, that's termed the 'downwind tack',
so it's faster (cause you are going downhill).
When you were heading back SE, that's called the 'upwind tack',
a slower run (cause you are going uphill).
Get it ?

Yep, definitely the uphill/downhill factor in part...

But just in case it's actually a serious question, that you really want an answer to, it probably also has something to do with your stance etc thats more efficient in one direction than the other.

Or, it could be just that the Wind Gods prefer goofy footers?

Cheers

Your non-favoured foot usually makes you concentrate more. This either makes your technique better, smoother and essentially faster or you try to hard, stiffen up and slow yourself down.

Seems the most likely scenario.

I have experienced a similar effect. Sometimes when going upwind in either direction on the same angle I just seem to pick up more speed going one way or the other goofy or natural.
A strange phenomenon: on the same day with the same wind speed and direction.

wind speed = the same
angle to the wind = the same
all above = faster on one tack than the other ?

eg: When boosting I prefer to go large(r) off my natural stance side. ( jumping off my goofy stance most often ends in disaster not sure why ) but I have found that often whilst riding I have wished I could jump higher off my gofy stance because on that tack it feels like there is more pressure in the kite.

Solution for me practice jumping goofy.

I know that you believe that you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant.

I have experienced the same, and put it down to not only the non-natural foot factor, but also the shape and direction of the prevailing chop. When it isn't rolling in parallel to the wind the dynamic profile under your board will be different in one direction to the other, one way will be more efficient to sail, in turn giving the impression of more power. I find this particularly noticable at lower windspeeds when there is more skill involved and less power to play with.

Just guessing though.
