For Revival 2005,
I agree that no-one should be attacked by an aggressive dog, i personally know that there are idiots at Bagnalls who let there horrible dogs off lead free to attack anyone and everything, including my dog. Obviously the owners you spoke of were irresponsible, and heartless. I would never allow my dogs to charge, attack and injure someone. i definately would not be laughing either.

As Cas and Calm have recognised, a kite is a really big toy for dogs and would rile them up to the point of aggression. It's only recently that my dogs have seen these kites and it will take awhile to get them used to seeing and ignoring them. i'd just like it if you kiters at baggies would recognise the difficulties the sport is bringing to this dog beach. It's not only exciting, but it's also quite frightening for little dogs. I have spoken to a few people who find it annoying.

I would like it if we could co-exist at this beach, as i have enjoyed watching you guys doing all your tricks, however i do not wish to be abused either because my dogs are in the water swimming(as this happened the other day).

please understand that i enjoy taking my dogs out for a run and a swim at baggies, as its the only place for them. Please understand as well that not every dog owner is irresponsible and should be "destroyed"- thanks for that Hizakite.

I agree no one should be attacked, perhaps it would have been better to call the ranger the first time round.

Here's to keeping the peace!

Im not missing the point that is trying to be made. I agree that the owner of the dog, in this particular incidient acted very irresponsibly by standing back and laughing rather then disciplining their animal, It was very wrong.
I was just trying to say that in reality, this is a risk of what could happen if a surfer chooses to surf at a dog beach. Yes there are alot of Irresponsible dog owners, but there are also alot of good ones. Alot of the owners may not be aware that their dogs will act like that around kites, especially if it is the first time a dog has seen one, and may find it difficult to discipline their excited dog/puppy. This dog owner however should of at least tried to do something,I am not disputing this fact.
Please try and see the point that I am trying to make.
Thank you.

To Calm and Local

I am also a local and have lived here most of my life (30 years). Here is the link to Port Stephens Council. As you can see there are numerous areas within 10 minutes from Baggies beach where dogs can be exercised both on and off lead. As for the beach 2 kms away, if you are referring to Dutchies beach, it is generally unsafe for kiting due to the proximity of anchored boats and the fact that it is sheltered from the breeze, making conditions fluky. It also has a very high volume of families, which is why kiters don't use it. I have been windsurfing in the area for 20 years and on occasion been chased by dogs. If memory serves me correctly the area now used by those of us that kite is the site of a past, long running windsurfing school. So the idea of sharing this beach is not new.

I had a flashback to this thread today while I parked my kite and sat back for a moment in the warm shallows of the Mandurah estury. There was a suddenly flurry of snapping, cracking and splashing in my lap. You should have seen the expression on my face as I screamed and grabbed whatever it was before it grabbed me. The bloody thing was a crab the size of a telephone. Nipped my fingers and drew blood, but at least I got it out of my lap !!

There is in fact an Illinois law that prohibits a number of things, one of which is a public erection, and another one of which is nude dancing. The prohibition against the public erection has never been challenged in the Supreme Court, but the prohibition against nude dancing has.
