I am interested in buying some kitesurfing photos for use as artwork bases for my t-shirt designs.

We don't sell many shirts at present, but I am always trying to expand the range of what's available, and to help with that I'd like access to fresh photography.

What's in it for you:
Your photo will be credited on the website as the basis of the artwork, including any links to your own website or other info. If you want, I can ensure that only limited editions of items are produced. Also, I can produce as many items for you as you want at wholesale prices. You get final approval of any artwork produced, and can veto any items based on your artwork that you don't approve of. Plus you can tell me to stop selling the design at any time.

What's in it for me:
I get fresh source material, and can expand the range of items I offer.

What I want:
Digital photos, 800x600 resolution or higher (jpg are ok.)Unaltered, and unprocessed strongly preferred.Don't necessarily need hi-res shots, and happy to consider shots of just kites, or just kiteboarders, or even stills from video.I need to know the place taken, and any other background info, to include on the site. You must be the copyright holder of the photo, and be prepared to allow me to use it royalty-free for up to 500 prints. If we sell over 500, then we can negotiate further royalties.

I've been looking at iStockPhoto and similar sites, but I thought it would be more interesting to get items from enthusiastic amateurs. iStockPhoto will allow me to buy a photo for 2,000 royalty-free uses at 800x600 resolution from $2US, but I'm prepared to pay $10AU per photo for 500 uses. You won't get to retire, admittedly, but then I don't expect professional-grade photography.

To see the sort of stuff we're producing, have a look at http://www.poleys.net

Anyone who is interested can PM me, or send me an email direct to [email protected]

Tip. Chek out succesfull clothing brands in other sports.
Surfing. No pics of surfing on surf shirts, just cool logo,s.
Motox. No motox pics on shirts, just cool logo,s.
Etc Etc. This was said on another thread a while ago, so not my idea but it made sense to me.
To be honest they did that back in the late 70's early 80's when the sufwear industry was in it's infantcy, but times have changed a lot since those days. Perhaps a cool logo like "KBG 007" (Kite board gear 07) might work ??
Just my opinion and trying to be constructive.
Cheers. Pat.

Pat,

Thanks for your thoughts. I've made a conscious decision with these items to include pictures. It's entirely deliberate.

I was pretty bored of clothing items that obscure their origins, trying to make a puzzle out of it or something? I don't know.

Anyway, I want to do designs that are firmly rooted in the sport. Unapologetic. And yes, I'm harking back a bit, trying to be a bit retro. Personally I think that a lot of t-shirt design these days is too abstract and symbolic (perhaps laziness? But also these guys are trading on their brands more than their origins, which is not a space I am in just yet.)

And to be really honest, I'm not concerned with success in this either, it's a hobby. I make enough money in my day job not to care too much. Just need to make enough sales to keep it going.

Keep on kiting,

Dylan.
