Looking for hobby spraypaint or whatever, has to be waterproof ofcourse cause I need to pimp my board with a few minor details. Been looking all over Perth in hobby stores and stuff like that but noone seems to have any.

Someone must know where I can buy some blue and/or red spraypaint.

Thanks.

I hope you're joking or trying to be funny?!? I've sprayed boards before with waterproof spraypaint so it's not a myth...

Surely most enamel paints should be waterproof. Alternatively you could just put marine coat or something over it.

Yeah well...... I know what type of spraypaint I need, that was not the question. The question was where I can buy it, ok?

Well.. I wasn't in Australia when I sprayed my old board so can't really take a flight for 32 hours to get a can of spraypaint

sprucegoose, spraypaint in cans is either enamel (turps based) or acrylic (thinners based) both are unaffected by water, however adhesion is governed by surface preparation and need to use a primer or undercoat. (often unnecessary)

sounds like you fluked it the first time! good luck.

Any place that sells automotive paints. check the internet.

If that doesn't work, hobby paint stores will work (tamiya paints) but is likely to be less durable and may or may not be more expensive.

Buy primer, sand your board first, spray primer - let dry, spray paint - let dry, do a second or third layer if you want - let dry, put clear coat - let dry.

When spraying, there are some problems with spraying outside (dust will create small speckles on your board) but if you do so indoors you have inhalation of fumes and paint to contend with so buy a disposable mask and cover your eyes.

If your not too picky about colors buy marine engine paint. Comes in a spray can and colors to match the main marine engine man. paint colors. Little sand and spray. The other way to do it is buy a disposable co2 spray gun and marine paint. Little more expensive but more color options.

I'd love to see a pick of the Marine spray paint you used. I've been working in the marine industry for 8 years and have yet to find one would have made a lot of jobs easier.

Bunnings or Super Cheap it is. Out of 10 replies one actually answered my question. Thanks.

And just for info, when I sprayed my old board I bought the cheapest hobbypaint I could find and just sprayed some on the board without primer, sanding, coating and so on. It sat there as if it was one with the board and will NEVER come off

You know those ****ty body kits that every Lancer driver seems to bluetack onto their cars?? They normally paint those themselves (keep the cost down init). Thats the paint you want.

Any automotive shop will have it, but use a plasticising primer that allows the paint to flex a bit without cracking, then any colour top coat.

like everyone says, any paint will do it. Its all in the prep work, just make sure that you dont see any shinny stuff. Also avoid gloss paint as it apparently causes water particels to stick together hence cause drag. On a 1 to 10 ratio 10 been glossy 1 been matt I would recommend a 3. Supercheap would be the go I wouldnt recommend bunnings for good auto paint. I sprayed an old board black once it never came off however remember the weight of the can when full will be added to your board.

Wattyl super etch primer first. Sticks to anything like sh1t to a blanket. comes in black or grey

Get automotive acrylic spraycan for the top/colour coat. and if you want to make it shiny put a couple of coats of clear acrylic over it.

Worked on my surfboard, motorbike, catamaran, kids bike and kiteboard.

I get my stuff at Paint Place but Supercheap Auto has it too.

Weight is the biggest problem. Try and use as little paint as possible.

Hey mate I pimped an old board of mine black with masked out silver gt stripes about 12months back using the cheapest sh!t spray can I could get from the 2dollar shop and then sprayed over it with a clear coat and it worked a treat. made sure it was completely clean and gave a real light sand first was all it needed. stuck really well. starting to get a few scratches now but thats coz of lack of care. pimp that shizzle innit g.
