I, i'm about to come to australia for 3, 4 month or maybe more (january to may 2005).
I'd like to know wich are the best places to ride or to stay. I intend to work a little bit as well (little jobs). I'm waiting impatiently for your responses.

Many thanks.

PS: what about the 2 options below ?
- landing in Brisbane and flying back to France from Perth
- landing in Sydney and doing several round trips

oooowwwwww, I can see a west vs east brewing here, but I'll let others get stuck into it
hp, do you know how big OZ is? Several round trips could be well over 20,000 Kms!

Indeed it's only once i posted this message that, wandering through this forum, i realized how polemic the topic was.

I can see with real fun that the kitesurfers whatever big or small the country is, are so much the same once it comes to talk about the best home spots ever

Ok then, polemic aside, let me ask in another way for my question. Considering the weather conditions for the period january to may which are the reliable western spots (that's for the western people)
and which are the reliable eastern spots (ok, guess who is that for...)
You'll tell me but what about the Melbourne's inhabitants east, west both????
Don't worry i've a question just for them: is Tasmania worth for kitesurfing, i guess its worth visiting for holyday purpose anyway.

Now Westozwind, is the question clear enough of polemic insunation for you to let me know about a piece of your local kite spots and local life knowledge???
Oh damned! sure i've been into another sensitive point
Just consider i've never asked anybody for his secret tips!
I swear i'll keep everything for me . And more to show you how dumb i will be I change my nick name right now for HP The DeadKiteMan.
What more can i do???
: just don't think about it!!!!!

Crikey! I had to look up polemic in the dictionary! (www.dictionary.com/browse/polemic )

There's a excellent site called www.windsurfwa.com which was setup years ago for windsurfers, which contains mountains of information of where to sail in WA .. how to get there, car rentals, you name it - more than anybody could type in here! (for the west coast)

Enjoy .. Laurie

Great!
Thanks a lot, this web site looks like a golden mine to me. The same one for the east cost and that will be perfect.
I had to look up for "crikey" too. So 1.1.

I'm glad you found polemic in the dictionnary. Don't feel it as an attack Only because I wasn't sure of it's meaning in english . It was an easy using word for me cause it sounds the same in french ("polémique").
Sorry then... next time i'll try to do it in a less frenchy way.

By the way, as you're still here (hope so...), another question: Is snowboarding possible all over the year? And if so where can i find snowy moutains in the summer time?

A forum must be an exchange right? For the moment it's only been one way so I'd be pleased to answer any question of yours in return about France, Europe and the kitesurf or anything else. I've also been to Maroco, Greece, Italy, Spain, Canarian islands, Florida, Venezuela... Will be in one month in Brasil and then Costa Rica as well.
If i can give any tips...

Looking at the kitesurfing holidays you have taken, and the destinations, I do have one question:

- what do you do for a job, and can I have it?!!!

<The same one for the east coast and that will be perfect.>

humm I doubt ...if you want to kite every single day, it simple it's WA.
But then East, South, North of the big island, it's all very nice to visit too.

You could do january-february in WA (really windy) and then go east.

Living in Cannes?, nice place, but can't really imagine where you launch a kite there?
from La Croisette?
maybe the reason for travelling a lot!

Hey HP great to hear you are coming to Aus to holiday and spend all your cash.. (what do you do for a job?) West Aus is alright for kite surfing but all the spots that you are allowed to kite in are really crowded.. I believe it's much less restricted on the east coast.. All I need now is to get my job transfered to there so I can get out on the water more often.

No doubt, I have to deal with a specialist of the Internationnal Film Festival of Cannes
But without joking we sometimes ride La Croisette. That's really an extreme session, not because of the size of the launching area but because you have to do it with your best fashion victim style while smiling to the photographs and playing with the police chassing you on the water. Believe me it's worth the ride!

Next time i'll try to send a few picture...

Thank for the advice of beginning the trip in WA. The pb is that i've booked a flight that arrives in Brisbane and live from Perth. I'll try to change it. Hope i'll manage.

PS: My job was a very good one but unfortunately I have to change in september. For now on I was part student at university and part working for an internationnal pharmaceutical firm called Arkopharma (there is actually a subsidiary company in australia). And now I change for............. unemployed wich a much better job to travel. Plenty of time and enough money for max 3 years everything paid by the governement to help you find another job. But one must be crazy not go on a one year off!!!

Do you have the same advantages once unemployed??

Anybody going to ring the CES / DSS to find out if a 6 month trip to Hatteras is covered by the Newstart allowance?

na not a festival expert, just from Massilia

using unemployment gov aids for travelling....
I suppose you're gone tell me:" everybody is screwing the system so why not me?"

anyway you'll get a mix of real info and lots of bulls*** on this forum,
so part of the game, I suppose, is to be able to find out what's true or not.

From Massilia hum.... A real massilia inhabitant then???
Can't believe you've gone down under without a piece of "Mistral", huge quantities of "Pastaga", and a picture of "la bonne mère" in your luggage
So where is the local "epluchure beach" over there?

Real aussies, I appologise for this special remembering message that must have bored more than one but i couldn't haved missed the pleasure of playing a little joke on a country mate.

For those still there and willing to understand the meaning of "Mistral", "Pastaga" and "la bonne mère", Leski i'll let you explain... Special good luck for a full translation (don't forget the massilian accent) of "la bonne mère" con!

well not born there so don't have the accent ( born in burgundy),
but anyway still drink plenty of pastaga.
Use to be a local windsurfer from 'La pointe rouge" , but now love the spacious spots, uncrowded.etc...
No equivalent of Epluchures beach around here that's for sure. Multiply the length of the beach by 1000 and divide the number of people by 1000 too, and you'll get an idea.
Anyway if you need more specific info Email me directly.
