I flew recently with Virgin, packed all my gear, board, kite, dive gear, clothes, the lot, into an Ozone board bag, 145cm long, weighed in at 30kg, so theoretically I should have had to pay some extra baggage fees. No dramas at all.
Check with them, but I think regardless of the weight of your sports equipment, they call it 5kg, leaving you with 15kg for the rest of your luggage.

except u have a 32kg limit on that sports bag.

Virgin are great with stuff like that. I do a lot of flying with all carriers and I seriously cant stand the Jetstar or Qantas chicks. I think since Virgin are all hot chicks they are much happier cause everyone is nice to them. PS Dont fill your body board bag with weed like Shapel.

I used to do Luggage handling at Skippers (regional miner's airline)

32 KGs is piss my friend, as you said, 3 months lifting those bags and you get tanked.

Although, Rampies (as they are officially called) only carry bags about 15 metres, to trolleys that are driven out to the plane and lifted on board on medium sized aircraft, on large ones (international and domestic jets) its even easier!

I also did some work as a Porter in the Whitsundays (most bags are around 40 KGs) where the only lifting i did was on and off my 700cc quad bike...BOOYEAH!

The hosties i worked with in my small company were all hot except for 1 minge. Jet* babes are dog and sometimes they're guys. QANTAS is kind of a lucky dip, Virgin girls are always tops!

Domestic QANTAS will let you have 2 pieces of baggage totalling 30KG in luggage hold, and 1 piece hand luggage=7KG plus a satchel or something.
Jet* will only let you have 20KG across 2 pieces of luggage hold baggage and charge $7 per kilo over that limit. plus the same deal with onboard luggage as QANTAS.
Virgin will do much the same as QANTAS. except most likely a lot cheaper.

And lengths permitted for QANTAS Luggage hold are anything as long as it will not fall apart and adheres to the Dangerous Goods manifest. onboard lengths do apply- about 70cm by 40cm by 20cm.

I doubt any replies from this but i like to help as much as possible.

and 1 last word of advice, think long and hard about that board bag. ok, a board and 2-3 kites is good for all conditions...but what is your destination like? is it a resort? is it a city? will you have to travel cross country? cause those wheels are F*CKIN ANNOYING when there isnt any bitumen or pavement, or when you encounter stairs... In My Opinion try and aim for something that you can lug over your shoulders, trolleys are always available, and when they arent other people are paid to take your gear for you, and trust me (we take good care of you, if you're polite to us)

If your board is 135 or less you should be able to get any 140cm bag. Some 140cm bags wont accomodate a 138 board for instance. Naish golf looks pretty sweet and is popular. I got the Mystic Gear box. Its 145 and will fit (maximum) 2 boards and 2 kites along with all your other kiting gear with some room left over if you pack it tight. However, was dissapointed when i discovered it wasn't padded... Doesn't say golf on it anywear but Virgin's policy is good enough that it doesn't matter.

Flew recently Bris to Mackay with Virgin. Easy to make the weight restriction due to 5kg allowance thing and friendly good looking staff.

Returned with Jetstar and knew the rules so freighted some gear back so I made the 20kg cut off. What a pain. Can't remember what the check-in chick looked like. She was friendly though!

If you have a choice and are looking for economy pricing Virgin wins.
