I love my bow am filled with excess confidence, security and loving every moment i spend under it. its just great (IMHO). In fact my kiting since i bought one has improved drastically, am doing things i wasnt even thinking of during winter.

However i am constantly bagged about the bow being just mediocre or not doing this and not doing that as well as c's

Yeah sure c's are better at a few things but i reckon bow's are the way to go.
does anyone else share the same thoughts??

One problem with bows is that 20knots isn't enough anymore, I want 25knots.

all kites are good, some are better than others in paticular areas!
bows= hang time and power
C's = unhooked smooth pull
foils = spongey feel, quicker setup and relaunch, more power per size for the flat ones

I was driving home past Leightons last week and when I went past the surf club there were about 5 kites up and flying.

As I got closer I realised one was an XBow, so's that one, 2 of them, wait, that one is too! Hang on, they all are.

Are you Bow kiters creating a sub-sect Poor Rello???

I just find it wierd that the biggest thing to happen to LEI development since two lines to four lines is being received so poorly.

What is so different to the C kites of this year as compared to last? very little i see in radical development just little tweaks here and there that dont make a huge amount of difference (IMHO)

ergh if they are so poorly received how come every brand is making them don’t worry about the talk it up crew
we know what they are good for lol
answer talking it up
I have noticed most of the crew doing the talking
are w3nkers anyway
it is annoying that they are gravitating toward me to tell me all about it but wish they would shut up and piss off
it annoys me when there on my beach hmm maybe Ill put up a sign.

yeah.

Some hobbit was lecturing me on how unsafe bows are. Its blowing 30+knots and im on my 11m with it completely depowered at the edge of the window and hes telling me that its unsafe.

This just after he dropped his handkerchief (6m) kite because it was getting a bit intense.

Couldn't believe what he was saying, no way i could of held a regular 11 or even an 8m.

I love my crossbow I have been out on the 12 and the 9 and they are different from the C but I feel so much more confident knowing I can switch off the power if I need to.

I haven't heard a bad word about them in person only on the forums but who really cares if you are having fun out there!

I was out on the 9 last weekend in 20+ knots and felt fine never over powered if I was on my 8 C02 I would of had some scary moments in the gusts I think..

The only real problem I've heard of is bows inverting, flipping inside out. This is a real problem, especially as bows are marketed as a safe option for beginners. The other stuff, bar pressure, build quality I haven't heard any complaints. Looking at the amount of bows turning up at beaches everywhere, even as new C kites get sold for half price, should speak volumes. Bow's dont make as good windbreaks as C kites!

As for "foils = spongey feel, quicker setup and relaunch, more power per size for the flat ones"

I'd call an ARC spongey, not my FS Speed. Bridled foils and ARC's are too different to be lumped together, and Speed is different to all previous bridled foils. This is where the cutting edge design is at.

It's just human nature to bag what you dont have..... .........Everybody was bagging 5th line at this tme last year now they are standard set on c kites

I am having the time of my life on mine and am looking forward to continual improvements in the years to come.

As Christopher Skase said "It's only money?"

Bows only suit certain riders. Not everyone will buy one, its called choice, choice is good.

to ALL 'bow' riders. get your heads out of your butts!!
stop being so defensive!!
we arnt jealous. its not that we cant afford one. many have decided that the 'bow' is just not for them. however it is annoying when you get comments from people who havent even taken one out for a ride. but there is only one way to find out. i spent 3 weeks with one and i know that its not for me. the novelty wore off after a while. by the way all the people i know who ride 'bows' dont kite like they use to and are in fact boring to watch now. and the ones that i know that are loving them cant kite for sheeyaaat and never will but at least they are having fun

I guess thats it they're different, horses for courses and all that.
But interested to know what people prefer about c kites.
Hope this doesnt degenerate.

Whats the deal with bow safety?
Is it death leash that pulls stopper out or wateva?
Is it sideline?
Can bows have 5th line?

I can't see bows as being good kites for people that drop there kite multiple times every session thats my main criticism and they feel heavy unhooked.

The Bows are really easy to relaunch so if you drop it lots its an added bonus just give one line a bit of a tug and up it goes

Its how you drop 'em im not a fan of death leash after converting to 5th line. So im talking what happens if you drop the bar, how easy is it to relaunch.

If you drop the bar and the kite drops into the water it will sit there until you pick the bar back up and pull on of the lines. There is not really anything you need to pull or release just let go and the stopper ball releases if there is any presure in the kite. You can untwist you lines etc without the kite dropping.

If you are riding unhooked you do need an extra leash - not sue how this works as I don't ride unhooked...

umm not sure I am getting to the point you are after...

Any reveiws from people who like to do good tricks? I dun wann hear about people like Rich Stenning who ride them, i want to hear from riders who actually do try good moves. No one is gonna bash their own kite, so you guys are not gonna say XBOWS are crap obviously.

Oh yeah and bows do look pretty gay sorta like doonas.

You really have some sort of grudge against the 'doona' kites. Were you maybe traumatised by one as a child. Does it really matter what the kite looks like, i thought it was about havin fun. Don't tell me you're only in this for the image.

bows are taking off big time in melbourne - it seems they suit the cold crappy conditions that are common here...

anyway, spacemonkey, ive seen guys doing tricks on em, hooked in and unhooked. most people i speak to that have ridden them love them, but i reckon the dedicated wakestylers will stick to their C's..

i rode a xbow and switch blade on sunday, and yeh different feel, but fun. i wont be selling my C's any time soon, but i will be buying a bow as soon as i have the cash. just makes sense in variable winds, or if you want to have a kite that has a ton of range. i think it'll complement my C's well..

id just like to see someone ride em hard
is it really that much fun standing upright on a board and going slow
kiting is meant to be an extreme sport. hey! i might go buy my grandma a bow for xmas
keep the sport real. if you have to have a bow at least learn to edge and give us all something exciting to watch and we might stop laughin

I like to quote "ride" my bow... Question for you tricksters: are you still riding two line kites? Or is it now OK to ride four line kites?

Gentlepeople, be careful what you say as in five years you won't be able to purchase a C kite. You will be buying trickster style bow kites such as the switchblade.

Personally i dont think there is an ideal kite, bow, c or otherwise.

I reckon the answer lies with something that has yet to be invented and the Bow is the first radical step towards that.

Wouldnt it be great to have a kite that boosts, relaunches and depowers like the bow, yet offered the pure grunt, speed and wakey feel of a c
what would that look like?

My wife and I were given a bow kite to try out... When we pumped it up, it looked like it would fit our matress perfectly !. So now we have an inflatable doona to keep us warm at night... We've even found a use for the complicated bridal ...

Go Brownee
I had to drop my kite tonight in 25kts of wind and after doing it a 100 times I managed to *uck up and put it up in Netta's front lawn. My Bests were rockin' and I don't care what anyone say's if the wind gets your kite and your not onto it its gonna start looping down wind and your dealing with it.
Whether its a bow or a c, kites are kites and wind is wind.
