someones in for a good thruster then!
but on a serious note, all the new owners of crossbows i've talked to have not related any bad vibe about their purchase.
i think the kite has been quite well researched, compared to other products.

St Kilda last Sunday the F-one Impact 13, did everything it was hyped to do and evrything the bow kites could claim.

Widespan kites have a place, and they will suit plenty of riders.

But be very sure to try the following kites before you buy.
CB, GK Sonic, SS Octane, SS T-diesel, Takoon Nova, Wipika Indy, and especially the F-one Impact. One of those kites will suit you.

I will have a Nova 12 and an Impact13 for direct comparison demoing this Sunday, somewhere around Port Phillip bay (depends on wind direction).

TXT 0402329360 for return updates.

Hi poor relative

Coming back to the question you asked at the begining , the main thing that I find is lack of familiarity when riding the bows .

I have been kiting for 4 years , I have finally figured out how to do the things I want to with a C kite and now I get given a kite that flys totally differently . " I don't think I like it "

I have only used a bow about half a dozen times but didn't enjoy myself and got frustrated each time .

I feel it comes down to what you want out of the kite , I ride waves and only use a surfboard (no jumping for me anymore ) so I was very interested in the bows after reading Marks Shinn's write up claiming it as the best wave kite ever .
For the conditions I ride in and for my style of riding I feel I get more out of the C kites .

The biggest advantage is the turning , with c kites you can feel where they are and what they are doing . I also like to ride in the sweet spot of the range for a kite as this keeps it super responsive . With the the bows I found they had good range but were only as responsive as c's in a narrow band .

Like I said , its all about the conditions you ride in . If we had cross-off winds (like Mark Shinn ) and wanted to get onto a wave and then drastically reduce the power they would be great but while I am riding Scarbs slop in onshore winds I will stick to my c's as I find them easier to use . If I lived somewhere that didn't have constant winds and was very frontal I would probably be more interested in the bows but living in Perth it is easy enough to put up a kite and be in the sweet spot of its range .

Hope this makes some sense to you because , as always ,I am still fairly confused .

Riding with a bow kite gives you literally double the board speed of a C-kite while giving better upwind performance.

On Saturday I borrowed a mate's 12m Crossbow, launched and rode through the pack of C-kiters on their 12m kites like they were standing still. I was able to get 400m upwind to the other guys in 2 reaches. They were on their 16m kites, I was on the 12m everyone was comfortable and having fun. The 12m C-kites ended up getting blown off the water in the strong gusty conditions.

PS. Similar thing last night. The wind picked up to 20-25 knots and a guy on a 15m Fuel gets lofted out of the water half way up the beach.

Meanwhile guys on 12 Crossbow and Switchblade and 16m Crossbow were happily riding and did not even notice the increased wind strength.

Even when just cruising most guys are doing downturn transitions just because it is fun and so easy to do.

Downloop turns, EXTREME!
Riding up wind, EXTREME!
Riding twice as fast as C riders, so what you were doing 40 knots?

I have flown with many bow riders anthey are certainly not going any faster, if anything slower.

hey chimp boy
you're very much the poser aren't you? Do you make sure that on your way in, you are in the best position to show off to the adoring crowds?
Who cares?! I couldn't give a **** what people ride or what tricks theyre doing as long as they're having fun...and not being a little show pony for the kids playing with a bucket and spade on the beach.

Poor rellie, maybe its a little too early to say whether the bow is a complete success (still some small problems like folding and the kite inverting) but the traditional kites went through the same process. Its only one stage! It'll soon sort itself out.

Cheers

I am really happy with the bow cause i do not get out much. I certainly do not see myself improving with the once a week if i am lucky action. It is a pity i would have loved to devote myself to this sport but no time and age has caught me. Are they the long boards of kiting? i like that i think they are when i use em.

I can get out there and ride in all conditions cause of the depower. I do not have to stay strong and my permantly stuffed knee gets a rest. As much as i hate to admit it i gotta just stand back and watch the dudes "rip". thank god for the bow. But i wish i did not need it so much. I reakon a c kite would bash me now

Will you people get over it, kites are just like bottles of wine, just because a bottle of wine has a gold label on it does not mean its the best, its what you like.

Same goes for kites , if that kite suits your style of riding then its the best kite for you.

Anyway I here the new shockwave from naish is an awesome kite.
The more variety of kites out their means you have alot more kites to choose from.

Bridles are gay.
Pulleys are pus.

I'm so glad that kitesurfing is moving forward towards simplicity and not becoming over-engineered.

If bows are so good, how many of the pro riders use them on the pkra tour, from what I have seen not many.Naish are marketing their bow kite just for wave riding, a very smart move I think as c shape will be around for a long time yet.

pkra?

Its hardly the pinnacle of kiteboarding.

Lets see who can get the lowest off the water and do the most spins?

I don't think theres really a need for high performance kites in competition.

Upwind (Get a mate to drag you up the beach), Jumping (get accused of being a dangler), Depower (You gotta be maxed bro!).

Anyway using your reasoning
Look at the world champion what does he fly? Flexifoil, I've seen one flexifoil in Perth and they were actually the world champions (now dan andersons dad flys them). Does that mean everyone is flying subpar kites? or that the kite doesnt really make a difference in competition?

Did you ever fly a two liner ?, bridals are not interesting, pulleys are not tech !

When a bow comes out without the need for the bridal or the pulleys then thats TECH !

Then you will be well aware, just as the rest of us veterens that two line kite's had bridals & pulleys...

What were bridals for again , to get the kite to turn !

What were the pulleys for , to speed up the turns of the kites !

Hey Spacemonkey you peice of ****, Rich here.
I wasn't going to bite and write a reply but since you took the time to tell me i can't ride or don't try good moves i just had to ask what in your almighty bag of good tricks qualifies as good move??
I guess powered back mobes in 30 knots riding is not a good move so ill stop trying that. L3's and flat 3's are last weeks trick so not to bother with those either. Give us a idea what you can do or better yet come down to sydney and show us what you are made of (i assume you are from butt **** no where and a nobody anyway).

You obviously don't have a clue what you are taking about on every post you have made on this topic. You say you like your fifth line..and not a suicide leash..guess what - that's one of the bloody benifit of a switchblade or xbow. You can drop your bar trying good moves (that i don't ever try apparently) just you'll never rip your kite in half with a fifth line kite.
And another thing, if you are riding faster with a C kite than a switchblade the all the riders in your area are kooks or you are as good as you think you are.

Kite simplicity is an illusion !. To give something the appearenceing of simplicity, it has taken hundreds of man/womans hours in research & development, testing and riding to get it right. Just so when it hits the customers hot little hands it's simple !

I give credit where credit is due. The LB's & Takoon have developed awell thought out product for 05/06. Personally I think these style kites will be radically different in 06/07. Like I mensioned above, when a bow kite has no requirement for a bridal to support its structure or pulleys to aid in it's turning performance, then I think we'll be onto something remarkable...

Thats what we're striving for at bestkiteboarding...
