If I buy a Crossbow, can I order one with extra wing-tips ?

The standard model doesn't seem to come with any ??

It turns fine without extra wing-tips. Such is its revolutionary design, it doesn't require wing tips of a C. All lift baby.

kite simplicity.

Kite simplicity is an illusion !. To give something the appearenceing of simplicity, it has taken hundreds of man/womans hours in research & development, testing and riding to get it right. Just so when it hits the customers hot little hands it's simple !

I give credit where credit is due. The LB's & Takoon have developed awell thought out product for 05/06. Personally I think these style kites will be radically different in 06/07. Like I mensioned above, when a bow kite has no requirement for a bridal to support its structure or pulleys to aid in it's turning performance, then I think we'll be onto something remarkable...

Thats what we're striving for at bestkiteboarding...

But whats the problem with pulleys and bridles.

I really don't see it. Yeah sure its complicated, but does it actually matter. They don't get tangled, they don't wear. Are they aesthetically displeasing? Too many negative connotations associated with foils and pulleys?

I don't know if you saw my kite the other day, but its pretty ****en simple. Rear lines connect straight to the rear of the kite and front lines straight to the front bridle (there is a pulley but it can be changed for a ring if you wanted). Anyway the bfk has a bridle and you fly one right?

All the advantages of 5th line with one less line. I would say its probably simpler, less ****ing around getting the thing tuned, no chance of it getting bowtied, one less line to untangle. You can just untangle the rears and leave the fronts twisted, and spin the chickenloop when its in the air, One walk instead of two!. With all honestly I think its simpler then recon, which was a pain in the ass with tangles, sand and getting the system to actually work.

Yeah sure they fly and feel different. But I wouldn't say it's necessarily worse.

I wish I could have both types, $$$ though(slingshot octane, 06 fuel look ****ing awesome, as does the yarga pro, from the pictures posted on KF.

Now put the question would I rather have say a 9m,11m and13m fuel or yarga pro (given it lasts more than a week)? then my one bow, YES! but its 3x the $$$$.

"All the advantages of 5th line with one less line." F-one 5th line range have allways been 4 line, with only four coming off the bar, and one splitting near the top for all you simple people who are confused about attatching 5 lines, and i believe north and other 5th line makers are the same...

i do have a question for the xbow or swithblade riders out there... to even bother making a claim that this kite is a two kite quiver or 1 kite quiver... IMO you need to be able to unhook when overpowereed and loop the kite without dying, and whatever the max wind you can do that in is, is your real top wind, caus after that speed, you ride different , dont do risky tricks and I think any new adjustable 5th line could match the bow for range.
Otherwise cabrinha would sell a 16, 10 and 6, vice 6,7,9,13,16 and however many other sizes he had.

chill out rich,

i think u misunderstood me big time, i just wanted some first hand opinion from people that do good tricks.I just used ur name cuz your th only good rider i know of that rides bows and i didnt want people to speak for u and say how good they were.

As for not knowing much about the depower and leash system that was one of my q's i wasnt stating anythin.

No need to take offense i just wanted the opinion from more advanced riders, thats why i chose your name...

" dun wann hear about people like Rich Stenning who ride them, i want to hear from riders who actually do try good moves."

They key word is ABOUT, i want to hear FROM. Do us a favour next time and read it properly before jumping to conclusions. If anything i was accrediting you as a good rider.

Do yourself a favour Monkey and think about what you've written before you post it.
" dun wann hear about people like Rich Stenning who ride them, i want to hear from riders who actually do try good moves."
Pretty easy to interpret that as Rich Stenning doesn't try good moves.
Good luck in your english exam.

Thats not really a concern for me coz I don't do tricks in any wind.

But Im sure it would be a concern for easties if they ever hosted the nats at geraldton again.

Coming back to the question you asked at the begining , the main thing that I find is lack of familiarity when riding the bows .

I have been kiting for 4 years , I have finally figured out how to do the things I want to with a C kite and now I get given a kite that flys totally differently . " I don't think I like it "

I have only used a bow about half a dozen times but didn't enjoy myself and got frustrated each time .

I feel it comes down to what you want out of the kite , I ride waves and only use a surfboard (no jumping for me anymore ) so I was very interested in the bows after reading Marks Shinn's write up claiming it as the best wave kite ever .
For the conditions I ride in and for my style of riding I feel I get more out of the C kites .

The biggest advantage is the turning , with c kites you can feel where they are and what they are doing . I also like to ride in the sweet spot of the range for a kite as this keeps it super responsive . With the the bows I found they had good range but were only as responsive as c's in a narrow band .

Like I said , its all about the conditions you ride in . If we had cross-off winds (like Mark Shinn ) and wanted to get onto a wave and then drastically reduce the power they would be great but while I am riding Scarbs slop in onshore winds I will stick to my c's as I find them easier to use . If I lived somewhere that didn't have constant winds and was very frontal I would probably be more interested in the bows but living in Perth it is easy enough to put up a kite and be in the sweet spot of its range .

Hope this makes some sense to you because , as always ,I am still fairly confused .

Thanks for that Mike.
I think that is a complaint that i have heard from a number of people who anticipated a wave kite of unparallelled proportions that turning speed is less than desirable. I think however this is addressed in the smaller sizes, esp. on the bows where the 9 and 7 are quite zippy.

One of the other things about the bow i have found is that it doesnt sit still when wave riding (not that my wave riding skills are up to much) but i often find myself having to continually adjust the kite when cutting accross, however there is a sweet spot and once you find that with the kite it will just sit there, depowered, maybe its just my skill level rather than the kite and its a case of getting used to it.

as i have said before i really like my bow, it was wierd the first few times out but now i feel like i have the idiosyncracies of it dialled in and my kiting seems to be improving (not that it could get worse ) But there are definatly some little bugs, and i reckon the 06/07 bows will be real interesting.

AH well u know what i mean, as if i really care abot grammar in forums anyway. The point was i didnt mean anything bad about Rich.
I dont do the examinable english anyway, me fail english thats umpossible.

The worst thing is studying when its windy and the sound of the wind is calling you, so you crank up ur Ipod so you dont realise its windy only to have the Kiting songs for the videos come on. So in the end i just gave in only to get there and the wnd die, ah well.

Bows are doona's are great.

Save room on your next camping trip

www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=708

or check out peter lynns new invention

no bridles, lines, bar or anything. Garunteed for a smooth ride.

------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe i took that a bit too far... Bows will be the future i rekon but at the moment they are in early stage developement. Ie. the cabs massive bar with enough pulleys to suspend an elephant.

Has anyone noticed onthe x-bows they made a hole in the canopy so u can pump it up face down??? at least thats what i assumed it was.

RE the Nova - or the Noway maybe. Actually maybe that is a little harsh. The kite itself is fine, no real difference from the XB, Sonic, Turbo D, etc etc. The huge let down is the bar. Soggy, slow to respond, no feedback, dreadful safety system - a velcro stopper that jammed on us once then would just pop open if you so much as looked at it. Back to the drawing board me thinks. I have seen the Slingshot Turbo Diesel bar. Now there is where they should be heading - simplicity itself. It is actually too simple to describe - you just have to see it, and you'll wonder why they aren't all like that. They probably will be.

That said; still can't get my head round the bow kite - easy to ride, awesome windrange, great safety (if you know how to use it - 4 of the last 5 people I have seen in the trees at Peli Point have been attached to bows) and doddle to relaunch. With all this, what could possibly be wrong? They don't talk back to me - it is a one-way conversation, like doing it with my latex Monica. I want a kite that comes to the party, gives some feedback, has an opinion. I can't have a relationship with a fence sitter, a grey area girl. I want snap decisions, confidence, fiesty and in your face. C is for charisma, character and challenge. That's my kite.

That is extremely well said. I ride a 9m bow and I love it, but out of the thousands of posts I have read that is the first one that I will credit in favour of the C kite. And your point is valid; again I say well said!

Hey guys,

Thought I'd get involved on this one.

First kites: 12m, 16m Boxer - great, stable, safe, easy relaunch, good depower.

Came to WA and wanted smaller kite because of your (so far mythical) seabreeze and bought a 9m crossbow.......

Likes:

Huge depower,
Great wind range,
Massive lift,
Prefer only four lines,
I never feel like this kite will overpower me even in the gusiest of squalls.

Dislikes:

Bar pressure (will not restrict my time on the water but masks the feel of the kite).
Construction (no way near slingshot or north levels)
Bridles and pulleys (more stuff to break)
Bar (Overly fussy)
Relaunch (only works if kite falls in LE down, the kite has a MAJOR tendency to invert which is usually recoverable but a big pain in the ass and i'm always concerned the kite will split, it can also fold a tip into the bridle and then you may as well pack down).
Self launch (unless you want to launch it downwind in the relaunch manner and scratch the kite across the beach then its no way as easy as a C-shaped kite).

Scared by:

On three occassions so far when messing up a jump entirely the kite has reversed a wing tip into the bridle and entered a powered up spiral from which I've had to quick release and swim in. This is a major safety pont and I've seen it happen to other people as well and don't like it. I've read about this other places on the net and have tried all the tips (including pumping the kite up very hard) but it still happens.

So because of the dislikes I've then gone and got a range of Rhino 05s which I love.

Bar pressure is light
I always know what the kite is doing
The power is fixed and much more grunty - hitting a wave can stop the crossbow.
Speed of turning is very rapid.
Construction is excellent.
Relaunch is consistent (slightly harder but always possible).

So I'm keeping the cbow and rhinos and losing the boxers. The bow will always be useful on those days when its blowing a gale and you are desparate to get out on the water. Plus I think with its depower it could be good for waves. But with consistent conditions I would always take the rhino. IMO there's more to come from bows and they're probably the future - just not there yet.

There - I've said it.

That was a very good note.

Bows are good but the biggest problem is the safety, great when you are on the water, but there are a lot of beginners out there who have been sold bows, who can't launch them and more importantly can't land them.

Saftey is going to be a big issue, it does not matter if they can handle a 20 knot range, if they are being sold to people who can't bring them in then there will be a lot more beack bannings as the fly over houses and into yards.

A fifth line attachment onto the leading edge (one point attachment) is the only solution to this.

Lets hope people realise this before we see some real issues. They should sell them with this warning or at least arm people with a safety solution.
