Intersting points but i would disagree with the safety points.

The bow is totally depowerable on the bar knock out the little red ball and thats it power off. Also newbies can attatch a safety line to the ring on the centre line so when the kite is released it goes to one line. i have a safety line on my harness so if a problem happens depower kite, attatch safety line and pull release.

Yeah the bow inverts, its happend to me twice, sice i got the bow in july once when i was in 30kn plus totally depowered, and was thankful it did it, and another time when in a jump, hard landing. Kite relaunched easy without problem afterwards by, keeping lines taught and pulling the back line.

Launching and landing as a newbie....i wouldnt be recommending this unassisted at all. Personally i dont self launch but self landing is easy.
Fly to the edge of the window, slowly drop kite onto its tip, depower on bar grab uppermost centre line, pull around whilst moving quickly downwind of kite.

Construction as i have seen compared to North, Slingshot etc is the same, when the bows first came out the centre struts werent reinforced, since the initial release this has been solved and Cabrinha have been happy to replace/repair the initial models.

I agree Bows are far from perfect, in so far as they are not the perfect set up as yet, but they are a huge step i the right direction IMHO.

Well said jimbow I totally agree with you, I think theirs a place for Bow kites and c kites will be around for a long time yet.
Self launching is very important to me and watching those guys do a self launch on a bow is very difficult, it does not appeal to me at all.

I certainly will buy a bow kite further down the tarck but Im not trading my c kites in just yet.I think maybe having a mixed quiver of bows and c kites will be the way to go.

Flat kites are the best thing to happen for the advancement of C kites.

Rivalry is motivating.

The only two advantages of flat kites ....
Depower and Relaunchability.

C kites will steal these two abstracts and run away with the ball.

Touchdown.

RE the Nova - or the Noway maybe. Actually maybe that is a little harsh. The kite itself is fine, no real difference from the XB, Sonic, Turbo D, etc etc. The huge let down is the bar. Soggy, slow to respond, no feedback, dreadful safety system - a velcro stopper that jammed on us once then would just pop open if you so much as looked at it. Back to the drawing board me thinks. I have seen the Slingshot Turbo Diesel bar. Now there is where they should be heading - simplicity itself. It is actually too simple to describe - you just have to see it, and you'll wonder why they aren't all like that. They probably will be.

That said; still can't get my head round the bow kite - easy to ride, awesome windrange, great safety (if you know how to use it - 4 of the last 5 people I have seen in the trees at Peli Point have been attached to bows) and doddle to relaunch. With all this, what could possibly be wrong? They don't talk back to me - it is a one-way conversation, like doing it with my latex Monica. I want a kite that comes to the party, gives some feedback, has an opinion. I can't have a relationship with a fence sitter, a grey area girl. I want snap decisions, confidence, fiesty and in your face. C is for charisma, character and challenge. That's my kite.

fly a blade.

Oh I have - I was racing buggies and so forth for years before I got onto the water, and even then it was with a blade. Awesome machine, until I crashed it. Power house, huge jumps and responsive as hell. When bows behave like that, then I'll be getting me some of that.

'slave talks of c kites and flat kites as if they are both living thinking entities capable of their own life choices.

design teams are whipping boys at the mercy of the consumer.

clever advertising also counts.

whats next? what will you choose to get behind?

For all you crossbow flyers, does your bow have a hole in the canopy so u can put the pump hose through? On one i saw it had like neoprene stretched across a hole for what appeared to be this purpose.

Can't you just pump it up normally?

who would get behind the BEST brand after all the lies their PR team have told the kiting community about how their "illusive" " revolutionary", " strongest & lightest material ever made", "make all other kites obscelete", " garanteed better ride than you've ever had before or we'll send you a cash voucher to be used in one of our stores " hellfish was to be the be all and end all, and know it must be atleast 6 month on down track...and the dream that they mouthed off about and promised everyone still doesn't exist!

Easy top up, not a bad idea I think.

The actual original reason for it was for use with a one pump system, Just lay the kite out upside down and pump. No need for a pump leash, just place sand where it usually goes. Would make it quite a bit easier I would say. Cab decided not to one pump the kite, but kept the valve.

Carbine,
Other brands have one-pump systems.
These other brands don't design holes in the canopy to facilitate pumping.

Poor excuse, man.
9 Nov 2005 2:12pm
Slave,

you think you are The Man, but honestly, the most sh1t on this forum comes out of your mouth.

The bigger problem is it appears you are actually being serious when giving us a sermon.

No, i don't fly a bow and don't intend to. Just a bit sick of Slave's self-righteous bullsh1t.

Yeah, good old Spacemonkey is a bit worried about the hole in the canopy too, but in all honesty, who kn cares.

Goodbye.

Bear,

All I'm saying is that the valve could have been located somewhere along the leading-edge,
which didn't necessitate the need for a stupid HOLE thru the canopy.

Simple hey ?

I'm assuming it's designed that way so the valve's behind the LE, to minimise drag. The hole in the canopy makes no diff to the kite at all. What's the problem? Seeing as you and Monkey Brains are the resident design genius's, maybe you should come up with something better.

Tobes,
If you don't need a HOLE, why have one ?
It's superfluous.
A HOLE creates.....
A weak spot, a stretch zone, higher construction costs.
The neoprene cover creates drag factor.

It's dumb.

Swearing Bear,

Should I remind you of the title of this topic ?

"What's wrong with bows" ?

Poor Relative was big enough and open-minded enough to invite critique about a kite,
one that he actually owns.
You, on the other hand, are offended by negative response about the same kite,
and you don't even own one ?

I don't get it ?

What I do get is that I'm replying on topic while you are just personally attacking me.

Go back to your hibernation Bear, winter's not over yet cause the seabreezes haven't kicked in properly.
