I seem to be overpowered when going downwind in a ball of spray on a short, big finned board and not a hope of moving the kite out of neutral because of the massive power avaliable on a good old Gero sea breeze

If you can touch the ground then you can put more kite up.

The actual formulae to work out when your overpowered is

a: get your weight in KGs,

b: get you kite size in meters

divide your weight by your kite size in meters
times the answer by 4.0

wights are optimised for 70 - 80 kg rider

i am not held liable for any crazy experiments that result from your answer!

Your only overpowered when you can't walk backwards

Even when slightly over powered best keep the kite really low, almost touching the water. This will allow your fins to get a better grip. If you have the kite at reasonably high or neutral the power from the kite is not acting against your fins as uch and you lose grip, lose an edge and then its all over [}:)]

I've had the kite locked in low and going like a stealth bomber railing as hard as physically possible still getting taken down wind. The next option is to use your bum as a brake to slow things down and try and stay in control. The last post of mine about getting the kite out of neutral was before I ejected it in a 40kn squall

The post originally said multiply by .4 - should have been 4.

Its roughly accurate from what I can see...I weigh 90kgs

18m = 90/18 * 4 = 20
14m = 90/14 * 4 = 25.7
10m = 90/10 * 4 = 36

9m = 55/9 *4 = 24
12m = 55/12 *4 = 18
16m = 55/16 *4 = 14

I think you could be about right on this one, though I would probably be overpowered on a 16 in 14knots and with the crossbows I think you could multiply by 4.5 - 5 as I have taken the nine out in about 23 and still felt like there was plenty left before I would have to come in, yet on the C shape that would have been the limit for me.

If only there was a calculation for the low end also...

you are only over powered when your closest lardy assed mate can't drag you back up the beach with your kite in neutral... [}:)]

Watch the graphs closer.
You know as soon as it hits the yellow and the swells over a meter,we can at least find you on the piss.
Dont worry about the huge swell and howling wind,rolling past the front yard ill take care of that for ya.

I reakon you are only overpowered when you don't come down.

Or the spreader bar hook straightens.

Or both you and the guy launching you are being dragged/pushed across the beach.

Or you are just plain scared.

Or........

30 mins = 20 waves 20 plus arials 40 jumps 40 gybs. THATS THAT thrashed /trashed and beer ready.
