It looks like 80% of the new kites being flown here are Slingshot...and some Cabrinhas and Best. Whats happened to all the rest? Like Naish and Wipika, not even many Liquid Force or Airush this year. Did the shops not bring any of these kites in anymore or are they just not selling them? Anyone take a guess of how many brands will be around in a few years?

r u serious? Where do you kite?

From SOS's point of view there are RRD Type 6's (flown by Martin Vari), Gaastra Visions just arrived, Naish Torches, Wipika Matrixes (Matrices?), the new Airush range, and of course Slingshot Fuels.

And that's just the high performance kites. There are mega cheap Airush Pilots, Gaastra Forces and Naish Boxers. I wish they were that cheap when I was getting into kiting.

Yeah I was serious, I just don't see many new 05 kites about except Slinghshot this year. I only kite in the ocean and the new kites seem to be almost all slingshot - maybe the river full of RRD's type 6's and Wipika Matrix's ???

We should have a quick poll of unsponsered riders who are riding a 05 kite to see what they bought and why? Havent heard much comment about the others.

If you discount sponsored riders, does anyone ride for slingshot?

I reckon this year there are a very good mix of kites from all companys on the water with the exception of Naish and maybe Wipika. All kites look to be good quality and everyone seems pleased with their purchases. 05 gear rocks!

Sorry Sling sl*ts, couldn't resist the jibe. It weould be a very interesting poll. Team riders excluded from voting.

Seems to be a lot of Slingys elsewhere but not many on Botany Bay or Cronulla. Mostly Best kites by far, then North, Naish, Airush, Cabs, Gastra, Flexifoil + few others and rams in smaller numbers. Just a reflection of what's stocked in the 2 local shops.

fairly mixed at scabs, liquid force, slingshot, naish, north and team airush.
and those are just the new models, still plenty of old naishes n gaastras hangin on.
i did see a new model cabrina on teh river, but that new bar looks pretty weird, and what happens when u unhook??? oh and the price...
i am suprised at how many slingshots there are too considering their prices.
i am also suprised there are not more best kites round north or even river. but i am guessing there are heaps around woodies and south areas. not sure if new models out tho.
they are def round, and dont think u can really go too wrong with any of the 05 kites.
i am keen to see what trix setups are used at the nationals this week...

The new Gaastra kites are looking nice now though, hopefully we can get a few of the new visions on the water cause they´re an amazing kite. The smaller sizes are a bit of a handful though. What did you think of them on the demo day Alan?
And a quick note on the Wipikas, I´ve got a mate flying the 11.5 and 13.5 Matrix kites and they look really nice and seem perfect for unhooking. Maybe we´ll see a few more of these kites out on the water as they cater really well for the wakestyle crew. See ya.

Another good poll would be how many people have bought a high performance 05 kite from a Perth retailer that isnt sponsered? I don't see many (any?) and the couple i know were bought overseas. I think a few slingies were bought as they are most popular. $1800 is heaps for most of us because in a few months be able to pick one up at a carpark sale for probably half that.

Its like nice toys but just got to wait to get one.

Hi Jeff,
I didn't get to ride a gaastra that day but the smaller ones look scary quick. You seem to do pretty good on them though!
