Nope never found any wind

Went to Brighton, nothing there went to Carrum nothing there in fact I think BOM are a mile awy from the actual wind!!

But if anyone knows where to go when the wind does acutlly blow in that direction I would love know.

Doppelganger, hang in there you will have a chance to get out on the water soon and it will all be worth it

this is what i think is good for these directions:

anythin with northerly in it.... Rye-Rosebud area

South West (typical sea breese).. Longbeach (frankston to aspendale)

anythin with east... let me know where!!

direct southerly.... aspendale, altona, etc

basically open up ya melways to the first page, and look for a cross-on shore directions for each beach. i gotta say, RYE is awsome due to the shallow flat water, even in 25knots its fairly flat! anywhere else really gets choppy.

good luck, and dont trust the BOM, use the wind graphs for a live wind check before you go out.

Bugger, almost went to Point Henery but thought it wouldn't be that good. Never mind had a good session yesterday down at St Kilda, the wind picked up nicely down there

And now that day light savings are here a few after work sessions should make the week a whole lot more enjoyable!!

Pt Henry wasnt good....it was kn awesome

Got down there at about 9:30am...only one at the spot, blowing 20 knots. Rigged up - a few local rolled up - about 6 of us only for the morning session - well lit on a 14m, got off the water about 1pm.

Wind came and went in patches until just after 5pm (I packed up - went into Geelong for something to eat about 4:30pm - saw white caps on Corio from the main street - headed straight back to Henry, pumped up & out again). The evening session ended when we were all too buggered to kite anymore - just after 7pm. The evening wind was magic - a steady 20 knots, nice high floaty jumps & butter flat water.

You all should have been there

FWIW - Easterly works at Altona. It is starting to get that feral acrid diseased smell about it though - it rots your wetsuit and your mind....

So unfair!!

But it sounds like I would have been disapointed even if I had come down, couldn't make it till about 1pm and had to be back in the city by 7pm

hmm.. time to start thinking about next weekend...

The No.1 rule with northerlies is to get there as early as possible 'cos they have a habit of dying by lunchtime.

Mate went to Rye and they had nothing...mind you it does go thru high there - I have kited there without a breath of wind on the beach - it shoots thru at 25m+ - so you really need line extenders.

I was tossing up between Rye & Henry and chose right. If you look at the wind charts from yesterday (and today for that matter) you will see that at this time of year Henry seems to get much more wind than Rye.

There are a couple of downsides with Henry. If you drop your kite a lot you would want to be wearing booties as there are sea urchins. Secondly, if you cant get your kite back up and its howling, you could end up in the bottom corner which is rocks up a steep face that the wind would lift over.

But - if you are competent it is a killer spot. Its always entertaining kiting there when a ship goes out the channel - the bow wave sets up lots of nice kickers

I'm still learning, can go downwind but not so hot on the upwind yet would it be ok for someone who still has to do the walk of shame or would it be a bit dangerous? Would I be better off going to Rye until I get better?

Must remember to get up early on those north winds!

Better to stick with Rye/Rosebud until you hone the skills.

Its a much nicer beach to walk up !
