You might want to do a search for previous threads on kiting in the Whitsundays. The islands/hills make for some gusty conditions.

If you were really keen you may want to try Conway Beach in a Southerly. Give it a miss if you get there and it is dead on shore, or if you don't like crocs living in the river next to the beach.

Hitch a ride to Bowen is probably a better sugestion. Clearer waters than Conway, and a choice of beaches when you get there.
