Obviously I'm retarded, I just don't understand the topic's title full stop.

leashes are gay ??
I'm not sure how they are gay, maybe dangerous at times. But critisicing their sexuality is unfair.

I mean,
they are both stupid board-leashes, hey ?
What do you mean they are both stupid

Are you stating that the combination of the directional surfboard and a leggy together are stupid.

they do the same function, right ?
What do the same function

I don't get it ?
lol.
I don't get you point

You know I ride a surfboard, in certain conditions I'll attach my leggy.
This is my chain of thought when deciding to use a leggy.
*
Is the wind slightly offshore, if in the event I have an equipment failure my board will be close by to assist in the event I need to paddle in.
*
Is their a chance the wind will drop out, Like you know at your local, the wind on the inside can be fickle. Nothing worse than a downed kite in a lull, slowly drifting away from your board which no doubt drifts in a different direction to the gentle drag your getting from the kite. As you will remeber what happened last week at your spot to another kiter, how I went and got his board. Then an hour later the wind dropped out on me but I managed to self rescue and my board just towed behind.
*
Big waves I've been out in 8-10ft waves only a few times. I've had situations where I've come off my board in between sets, without the leggy I would have been in all sorts of trouble. Being able to tug your leggy put board on feet and get out of there is way better than getting smashed into the Gnaraloo bubble or the impact zone at Marg's.

Downwinder on hot weekends Not all the time but if the conditions are hot and it's a weekend then you know the beach will packed. Because I do down winders strapless I will lose my board more regular than srapped, so to prevent my board just washing into some kids that could be 50m away I will wear a leggy. Saves you dragging around for most of the downwinder to.

Offshore reefs More often than not they have very strong currents from the water dredging off the reef into the deeper chanels. I would much prefer to know where my board is 1K out to sea then be dragging around like shark bait looking for it.
IMO the risk potential on a surfboard with leggy is heavily reduced from a twin tip and leash setup... For one the surfboard volume keeps the board from doing the typical submarine problem like TT's. The speed of travel is totally different, there's no boosting or trickery (well shouldn't be in the waves anyway).
I agree there are risks, the most common risk by using a leggy on a surfboard is when dragging through oncoming waves. This is the only time the board will want to become a projectile, in this event I'm fully prepared and I keep my head and body submerged until the stretch of the leggy has gone.
Not saying everyone should be wearing one...Some people shouldn't go out fullstop in the conditions I listed above. But if your aware of the potential risks and put countermeasures in place then don't worry about what others say.
Slave you probably think all us that use pads under our straps are Gay.
