Just curious what people choose as there favorite wind direction when riding waves.
Ive only riden small waves a couple of times and both times it was cross on shore - this seemed sensible to me in case I got into strife, and was not a huge issue with de-powering so much that the kite falls out of the sky. Does anyone ride cross shore and just ride down wind ?

Directly cross shore for me is great, because your kite can just drift down the line, while you ride the wave, and you don't have to move it.

Directly on-shore is also great because you can ride at 90 degrees to the wind and be moving straight down the line of the wave, and not shift your kite much.

Cross-on I find is good, but not as good because there is more work to do with the kite (and who like work eh?).

But that's just me.

Anybody got any cool links to "how to ride cross-onshore wind/waves"?

I've been making it up as I go but really should get some proper technique happening.

Cross On,Front Side,Back Side,Toe side,Heel Side Lefts & Rights.Make it up as you go and hit that lip hard and spray buckets.Good luck finding a vid otherwise kite as many places as you can with like minded thinkers.Watching others theories and incorporating it into your style try it all.

Cross off is actually the best as you blow on to the wave face and the wind keeps the wave up and steep. Also, minimal kite movement required. Make sure you know what you're doing, cause if you get into trouble, out to sea you go.

Direct cross requires a lot of kite movement.

Cross on usually means mushy waves.

Direct onshore not great and direct offshore not good and dangerous.

no it doesn't, the kite will basically sit there and you follow it down the line. i reckon direct cross shore is the best to ride.

also when the wind is cross-off its hard to wash off speed, and you end up just hanging off the kite instead of using the wave's power to surf

It seems there is no fixed opinion on this.
So I don't feel so bad if I just make it up as I go along!

Cross on shore and on shore seems good to me.
I wouldn't go with offshore just yet.
