Im a bloody guru, I'll tell ya
The wind/weather sucks in North Queensland.

What to take-
Umbrella and stinger suit.
Maybe pack massive kites and light wind boards if you like paying excess baggage.
10m for the windy days. That is about 2-6 days in August.
13m-16m for the not so windy days. 10 days/month between showers.
Leave your surfboard at home. Alva waves are far over rated.

Cheer up Emo
Its sunny over 300 days on average here.
Windy all year (i have had my 7 out more than any other kite so far this year)

Def not the place to surf on NQ coast but you find heaps of A+ conditions for kiting with TT.
Ask the locals about surf in Alva they will tell ya.

You get clean waves in Alva

im with marve on this one apart from 300 days being sunny, well its not in cairns thats for sure. i think lovely is talking about the wet season up here, the dry/windy season is great, 10m will be the biggest kite youll need.

GFS, shows big high pressure system, initially over south OZ, then heading east. 1016 staying for several days, although isobars do have some spread. Sure the locals will be happy with that!!!!

I'll have a crack at a forecast, although at 7 days out, its right at the edge of the viable prediction window. Anyway....

The Good news - there should be enough wind to hold the event.

The not so good news - the models are predicting a SE trade flow of about 15-18 knots in the coral sea over the easter weekend, so allowing for some seabreeze effect in the afternoon, I'd be expecting about 15-18knot averages and gusts into the low 20's at the Alva beach location. Can almost guarantee you won't see 20-25 knot averages, unless the high pressure system due into the Tasman sea friday afternoon is stronger than predicted.

The buoyweather model and the BoM models are in pretty good agreement at the moment (the seabreeze model for Townsville is pretty much the offshore Buoyweather data, same same), although the BoM model has the flow a little stronger (closer to 20knots) toward the latter part of the weekend. The mid level trough over the coral sea which has been causing all the variability in the recent wind forecasts for Townsville will have moved off, allowing the trade flow to settle down by easter.

Hope that helps you're kite packing dilemmas!

Can update this forecast a bit now.

thursday 10-15kn
friday 10-15kn
saturday 10-15kn increasing to 15-20kn later in the day
sunday 20kn increasing to 20-25kn later
monday 20-25kn

The pressure pattern in front of the next high has weakened, hence the 10-15kn on thursday and friday, but the high when it arrives in the tasman is going to be nearer to 1030hpa, so the wind is going to build nicely over the weekend.
