Does anyone know what the wind range of a 13m flysurfer psycho is?

thanks general. I think they are out with their measurements... 5-23knots for a 13m. Was their rider a toddler?

The ranges on their site are for land, sea and snow. Hence they look huge.
I have a P3 13 and I do get a big range out of it.

Starts at about 11kn on a BIG board. The fun really starts 14knots.
I can hold it down in the high 20s but that is no fun. Starts to get a bit much at 23kn.

Obviously it all depends on the board and the choppiness of the water too.

Agree with Schmik. For me, at 69kgs, 10 knots big board to 20 knots small board. If you're kiting on nice flat water you could go maybe 25 knots.

...and?

I just got myself a 17m P3 for light wind, and at 110kg on a shortish TT that's anything under 18 knots for me. I managed to give it a good test last weekend, wind ranging from 8 to 18 knots, and that was pretty much what I got from it. 18 knots and I was absolutely trucking! Didn't make ground at 8, that was about 11, but at least I could plane. I need to fiddle the settings a bit yet, it's hooking to the left, but that looks a lot easier than fiddling an LEI with the same problem.

17M Speed @ about 75kgs
On my Slingshot Glide (ultra light wind board) I can get up & going @ 6kts then upwind with any added apparent wind. But (esp if its not a super consistent 6kts+) its a battle to maintain anything workable unless you just keep going in a straight line. At anything consistent above 7kts then ur away - no problem.
On a 137TT the fun starts at about 8kts thru to about 13kts when it begins to feel like ur wakeboarding behind the Manly ferry. You could still work it beyond that, Im sure, but by then I reckon its time for something smaller & faster.

I reckon its a great option for lightwind AND especially good for heavyweight kiters in lighter winds because it really does have the grunt of bulldozer. When you push and hold a really solid edge this kite points upwind like you wouldnt believe. Unreal.

(sorry - dont know anything about the psycho's )

Hey Puppet you should modify your Speed1 to give it much more depower - it's not simple but it gives great results - not as good as the Speed2 but they call it the Speed1.5 - try the demo I have in Choicey's shop & copy the mod if you like it.

I have been playing with light wind speeds I am around 90Kg: Speed1 13m not quite enough bottom end; Speed2 10m so much fun but a little punchy in gusty high winds and lacking the bottom end; speed2 12m more stable and better low end; Speed2 15m great bottom end but sluggish in the turn and a handful when juiced. My question is whether the psycho3 has noticeably less upwind ability and would a 17m P3 be a faster turner than the 15m S2?

17m P3 will turn slower and point a little less upwind (not by a huge margin though) than 15m Speed2

The only thing I've heard from FS Germany is that the Psycho4 should be out by Oct 08 - and it's definitely a ram-air foil

There's already too many inflatable brands in the market so I can't see FS starting to make them

Hey Puppet

My 17M Speed 1 is on its way back from the USA where I have just had the 1.5 conversion done, I’m not in to spaghetti engineering so decided to get a professional job done.

I had a test fly on Ian’s 17m prior to sending it off, with the conversion it felt like the kite had twice as much depower than before, Had it out on the water in about 15knots and still felt in control

The all up cost including shipping, insurance etc was just under $500, a small price to pay to get the big scary Speed 1 out of the bag and back on the water.

Cheers

Mark

Thanks for the input Ian. I was curious which FS kites are in your quiver this year?

PS. although the LEI foil topic is so overplayed: I think that the bridling of foils coupled with the rigidity of LEI's is the kite of the future. No current LEI matches the complete bar feel of a FS at the moment. It seems FS are slowly introducing more canopy structure to their kites which is a step in that direction....

Ian

I have a 13m Speed 1 and would like the 1.5 mod. If sent it to you, would you do the mod? I am happy to pay for your time and materials.

Sorry I didn't do the mod - takes too much time that I don't have

But email me and I'll put you in touch with someone who might be able to help - else I'd recommend sending it to USA like Mark H did.

Can you provide some details on where you sent your kite and how?

Have you got it back yet?

Thanks in advance

10M for sure! Pulse2, more stable and floaty for surf, but still heaps of lift for flat water and excellent upwind and jumping.

There you go Rooey.
We carry 4 kites in stock at present and most popular sizes and models are available quickly anyway.
Speed2 is more for old school, crusing upwind easy, big long jumps, etc, best in flat water, but still very stable in waves as are all Flysurfer kites.
Psycho3 more of a crossover between new school and old school, tighter turning, and with excellent lift
Pulse2 best for new school/wakestyle, waves.
Plenty of info on the KP and Flysurfer websites about the differences.

Where are you located in Oz?

that´s true.
i reckon, people are just afraid of things they don´t know. but after testing pretty impressed by the windrange, barfeeling etc.
if you have the chance to test them, go for it and feel what they are like..
as steve already said: speed II is for hangtime and massive lightwindabilities!! the psycho III is for newschool moves and has good hangtime though. the pulse II has the easiest handling in the range. easiest re-launch, massive depower, stabil and good lift.
it depends on what you´re looking for. at least, you have to try them..
don´t hesitate to ask for more information.
