Looks like theres been a few thousand litres of untreated water flushed into the ocean. A fishing alert has been issued. Looks like it is a major engineering feat to fix. Why is there a treatment plant so close to the ocean AND a supposed nature reserve. The ocean is not our garbage dump.

Good to see the WA water body taking an leaf out of Melbourne Waters book.
Were they kind enough to publicly and openly acknowledge the fact they did this or were they as spineless as Melb Water who put it on page 6 of a press release; 'oh by the way theres a few megaliters of sewerage and you probably don't want to swim in it'.

No a little more subtle, the rangers were advising people. "See those fish you just caught, best not to eat them". "What about the ones I ate yesterday?"...."Doh, see a doctor it you get sick".

Unless you know something else Dave you're just being an alarmist dork bringing down the good name of Daves everywhere.

From Pioda's link
Due to a faulty valve at the Woodman Point Wastewater Treatment Plant, highly treated wastewater usually released offshore at Point Peron has been released via a contingency outlet pipe at Woodman Point, 1.6kms offshore. The amount that has been released represents a small volume of the wastewater processed at the Plant.

There is a major difference there. In many places highly treated wastewater = drinking water.

I'd be inclined to treat (no pun intended) the spin put out by the Water Corp with a little more scepticism.

If it really is a case of "...highly treated wastewater = drinking water."
then why would it warrant a public notification from the Water Corp and the Public Health Dept?

And I'd also like to know how they can state the following- quoted form the Water Corp website
"The majority of wastewater is from household laundries, kitchens and bathrooms."

I'm no plumber, but I'm pretty sure that the toilet waste pipes also join up with the same pipes that takes the kitchen & laundry waste water.

this is a relief

Since the early hours of Sunday, 5 September, a total of 10.65 megalitres (million litres) of highly treated wastewater has been released via the contingency outlet pipe. These short-term releases will have no impact on the quality of the Cockburn Sound, ecology and adjacent areas of Woodman Point.

well done water corp avoided another stuff up
