The unstrapped kiting boyz have a longggggggggggg way to go - as the current unstrapped kite style has to look like surfing to be cool. Good luck ladz.

Man surfing is so limiting compared to kiting. imagine only being able to get up and plaining every 10-15 mins, then you only get a poultry 10 -20 secs on the wave.... no boosting. jumps are small.

I know why I kite. sooooo much more fun factor.

Horrible & ugly with no control and over powered with alot of salt water spray in the face & his turns 20m infornt of the breaking wave - its very very 1960"s

Love min 8.50 what the fark has that got to do with surfing?

Yes I agree very tech and hard - but is it surfing or free style -

If its freestyle then its - amazing

Yeah Plummet - I concur !! Johnno's vid shows some fun by some of the best - dont see that every day down at the beach - and yes Johnno not all kiteboarders rip it like the guy in your vid.

Minute for minute on the water - kiting is better value for the hard earned brownie points you burn, but then again its not often that great kiting and surfing conditions coincide!

BTW - there was a link on SB to a 'new kiteboarder' that I cant find right now that must have been born with velcro on his feet - would make Johnno's surfers drop their jaws!!

Hey Johnno, sic video! Thats coming from someone that surfed/skated alot and then moved to Perth - **** surf so took up kiteboarding as well. If you wanted to give the downwinder crew a hard time you should have posted the video that surfingboy just put on.

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Kitesurfing/General/CARADA-ON-STRAPLESS-ISLAND/

Thought that video was great and I ride a twin tip!

P.S

Every time I see Ryland or Keahi kite on a surfboard unstrapped I'm impressed!

Its true, no doubt those kids are talented, but it sort of look like crap, no style, jerking around, just hasnt got the natural look, guess the dub **** music is the sound that expresses our sport the best

Hi Johhno

The strapless island vid 8.50 bit is strapless kitesurfing, definitely not surfing. They are two similar but completely different sports. Surfing is awesome, especially in glassy, hollow conditions, but when its windy, well kitesurfing is in another realm and the freestyle, unstrapped stuff that Airton, Michu, Keahi, Ry, Leo, Matt and HEAPS of others do now, is really amazing and great to watch IMO as I'm tool old and stiff to do it. Definitely going to get into videoing it though!!
Different sports.

Yeh I concur different sports, different feel. I sat last night and watched a vid of young guys strapless surfing with arial tricks with my 5 yr old son (yes the positive brain washing is well and truly under way) and it was just amazing what they are doing. They still have far more connection with the wave and its power. I also concur I'm too old and wish I was born 20 years later!!!

Can't we just enjoy it all and live in peace!
Great vid. That ankle is going to haunt him. It's amazing what the knees and ankles can put up with in modern performance sport.

and chances are these guys will be able to replace their ankles when the arthritis sets in...and it will.

Yeh unstrapped kiting just blows me away. I know how hard it is to do on a skim board, on the flat...just amazing board and kite control!

All good videos

The surfing rules - if only most of us could have access to uncrowded sick waves and build up a worthwhile facetime for good progress - but just not reality today for most, one of reasons I got into kiting. Sick of driving to even more remote spots midweek and finding an overcrowded **** fight over even average waves with even some moronic tension even between different surfcraft - longboard shortboard sup kite... that are essentially trying to enjoy a similar experience. Scored siiick double overhead grinders yesterday tho to ourselves- rare as rockinghorse**** tho!

Skating - I can watch skate videos everyday, all day long... they usually smoke all other board sport videos for entertainment value, but for sure exceptions.

Kitesurfboard freestyle - I really like this - For a start it is the most progressive thing I have seen in kiteboarding in years with new tricks being developed that have never been done before - I love this stage that many board sports go through. I think this has been tried sort of in the past (on skimboards and stuff - ) but the way it is starting being done today is like soooo much better. i kited with Ian Aldridge recently and it was so awesome to see him riding and taking off so fast into various strapless jumps with kite much lower to enable faster landings too - was siiick! Be interesting to see how it develops or whether the progression hits a brick wall like general freestyle kiteboarding did a few years ago. Those days of seeing first ever kiteloop tricks, unhooked stuff, double passes were awesome.

I dont think riders should be too critical of style when new ideas, riding methods, or tricks come along because that will come with time and without riders trying new ideas and stuff kiteboarding will no longer be a progressive sport and that will not make it anywhere near as interesting and fun. Even Toby kiteforums hooked stuff - there are still some ideas in there worthy of exploration at least. If you look at videos of pioneers of progression of kiteboarding from years ago - they didn't give a **** about executing things with perfect style /power/speed/without dangle/ straight away - they just got on with trying a **** load of new ideas, some of which you don't see anyone doing any more for obvious reasons and some of which have developed into finely tuned masterpieces.

surfed pretty much my whole life ... doesn't matter where you go on the planet the waves are crowded, the locals are agro, and the time standing up feeling the stoke is more like a privilege than a way of life.

I started this sport 4 months ago, I get to the beach - doesn't matter if it's crowded with kites ... you know what ... the more better! 'cause the vibe is awesome (not agro) ........ crew are stoked to see you as much as you are to see them, 'blow-ins' are welcomed and become locals within seconds and if there's wind, you're scoring stoke.

As my cousin put it : "Jase, kiting's surfing with all the **** bits taken out".

Amen.
Lovin this sport.

jonno that was sick vid thanks for sharing!

IA is definitely a standout with a smooth and precise style hitting the waves like a good surfer, he adds what i think is the most balanced act with some good flippy stuff as well :)
