Thinking of heading to Port Macquarie and Yamba for a week or so in April. Two important questions:
1) Where to kite?
2) What wind would I "normally" expect?
Anyone with ideas, appreciate some info TA.

Baz.

Don't know about Yamba but 1hr north is Flat Rock a right hand point break, just past Ballina and works in south winds. Lenox Head in 5 mins further north and works in north round to south wind.

Have fun

Hi Baz
I am new to the sport, enjoying it very much and very addicted.I live in Port and yes we do kite in the river near the river mouth. We also kite at Lighthouse beach when the wind is right.Northeast winds are usually the best for both locations, but now that the cooler months are on the way southerlys are starting.Southerlys in the river are ok providing flat glassy water but with the wind coming through town It's patchy.I think Lighthouse beach should be good in a southwest wind.

There are usually a few kites out at the Port rivermouth in a noreaster, though the limiting factor is the tide. After a fresh it really motors out and the flats are exposed from about 0.5m. Great conditions for loosing boards.

I've never been out at lighthouse, but I'd be cautious about a souwester as it's cross-off and gusty.

I'm not sure about Yamba.

Less than an hour south of Port is Old Bar. There is a crew that regularly kite here. Also half an hour south is Wallis lake if you are after flat water in SW winds. There is a good kite shop in Foster ("X-shore kiting" - moving to Tuncurry) owned by Glen Hooper. He will give you the good oil.
