Was kiting at Longy on Monday at about 5pm. 30 knot southerly. Saw the makings of a really bad looking accident with one kiter getting caught high up in the lines (canopy?) of another kite. Does anyone know if the kiter was ok?

How is someone 5-7 m in the air that close to the beach ?

Thoughts go out to the kiter and family, hearing these horror stories all too often at the moment.

I was kiting there yesterday and left just before the accident, so he got caught in the bridle of another kite did he?

There seems to be so much bullsh** banter on the forum these days, maybe it's always been that way. But this is where people really come through and offer support to the kiting community. Hope the guy recovers soon and his injuries are not lasting. Our thoughts from our community go out to him and those involved. Anything can happen any time. Summer hasn't even hit yet and people are dropping like flies. Be safe, be well, be considerate of others.

There were a lot of people out that day at Long Reef, 30 knots of wind plus three cameramen. Lots of us were having an awesome time. I don't think I know this poor guy, but given in those circumstances it would have only taken a small mistake for something to go seriously wrong. Sometimes when we're in the moment we forget how dangerous kite boarding can potentially be. I don't think we as a kiteboarding community should be pointing the finger at people but rather remind our selves of kiteboarding etiquette and right of way rules. which surprisingly a lot of people don't know.

My thoughts go to this kiteboarder and his family. Hope he makes a full recovery.

As one of the first on the scene it was good to see others come to his help, and assistance, especially those that stayed with him and helped him the most. Well done guys, And a big thankyou to the emergency crews (Ambo, police, fire, careflight, sls) who responded very quickly and professionally.

Regardless of how it happened, the fact is it happened, and so very very quickly, literally in the space of a couple seconds.
All kiters, please pay attention of what is happening around you, and be prepared to re-act /act quickly.
Watching this event replay over and over in my head, I wonder how I would have reacted, At times we all forget to look, or presume others will see you etc, well sometimes we just don't see, or are caught up in your own little world, Maybe best to just give others a little room, and know your own real ability, and pay attention to the surroundings.
