Went there yesterday and it was disgusting!
It is a good spot though! Nice flat water.
Definitely going back there before the end of the holidays. Hopefully the smell will be better.

Yesterday was worse than any session I've ever had at Altona. It was a shocker. It smelt worst than Rozanne Barr's crack.

Problem Easily Solved

At low tide

Drop a SlingShot Fuel on it

Get a Cabrinah Crossbow

& Shoot a Naish Torch into it

Article from The Australian that may assist. It must be a good spot.

Beach contaminated by faecal matter

SWIMMERS have been advised to stay out of the water at a Melbourne beach which has become contaminated with faecal matter. The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) warned against swimming at Altona Beach on Port Philip Bay in Melbourne's western suburbs after finding high levels of faeces in the water.

The EPA said it was investigating the source but could not determine yet whether it was human or animal faeces.

"There's a range of sources it could have come from," said EPA director Stuart McConnell.

"It could be a leak or spill of sewage, or could be from septic, it could be animal faeces."

Ingestion of the faecal matter could result in severe gastro illness.

Mr McConnell said the affected area was restricted to Altona Beach with other beaches in the bay having good water quality.

He expected Altona Beach would be back to normal "within a couple of days".

The news is pretty much all bad no matter what it is. Human poos can give you human diseases as well as a crook guts though - like hepatitis, giardia and poo-breath. It's also just big bad bacteria - gives your immune system a hammering. In poor places you'd be looking at Cholera etc too. not good.

Animal poo can't give you the really nasty stuff, but it can give you cryptosporidium which is a both ends sort of arrangement and can be very bad if you are looking after small people or elderly. It can also carry salmonella, campylobacter and listeria.

Resist the urge to carry out the: 'Hey! That DOES taste like poo!' test.

Better still don't come here.
Getting a little tired of all the w@##ers trucking over in their shiny new subarus, suv's and holden utes clogging up and kooking out the beach in their obligatory shorts over the wettie "hey look at me im a kiter dude".
Shoo shoo..go home ..dont come back... go back over the bridge to double double decaf soy latte frappa lappa chino land, where everyone rides a 10k pushie with shaved legs and lycra shorts and wears those dolce and cabbana sunnies.

bring on the festy poo i say!!

heres some music to play on yer way home girlies

Hobsons bay council has re-zoned the pier end of Altona beach to a non-boating zone effective immediately, and have asked for all kiters to refrain from using the area.
However due to a number of protests from concerned members of the subaru and suv driving clubs they have decided to issue a boating permit for cherry lake, see www.onlymelbourne.com.au/cherry-lake-lions-club-market located on Millers Rd.
As a concession to the protests of the irate kiters who frequent the pier end, the council have agreed to install a coffee shop.. DOH! (how silly of me)...espresso bar, a tanning and leg waxing salon in the garden area of the lake reserve. The local scout group will also provide a free bike wash...no huffys allowed of course. This will provide a bonus to the hand-knitted goods, plants (including orchids and ferns), which are offered when the market is on.
What a lovely bunch of counciler - ors-whatever.
