going in late august for 7 days, does anyone know what kite ranges to take, wind speed ect, im 85 kg riding a 137 board??

any refereces for decent hotels ect, best places to stay near nightlife bars ect, cheers

It's awesome and don't believe the hype about the attitude on the beaches. The locals are super friendly.

Hey MC,

For Maui you'll need a 12 for light winds, and an 8 for nukin' Pro Beach which is what you think of when you see the videos, has a bit of attitude but ton too bad, Action Beach which is 100m away is friendly with loads of instructors and friendly people. Wind is usually a bit gusty and it gets crowded in frobt of Pro beach, better to ride upwind to lowers or ride out front of Canoe Beach.

The other guys are right, Maiu has pretty much no night life apart from Casanovas on Wednesday (long time ago) even that was crap. You'll be too tired anyway. Lanes (next to Ho'okipa) is good but treacherous launch and dangerous when it is BIG.

Ask around for accom at the beach when you get there. You can also ride Kehei on the other side which is not so mental. Winds are milder and water is less choppy, waves are also much smaller. Ask around at Action beach.

I've got a mate who lives on Kuaii and says that the locals can be pretty heavy. I don't know which beaches he's talking about but thought you might like to know. He said it is the nicest looking island of them all though, I've seen photos of his house overlooking a massive waterfall surrounded by jungle and can tell you he's not wrong.

OK. If you are after holiday unit type accom. you would be better off over at Kihei. There are several resort type places on the beach,with kiting right out front. Try "Sunsets" great grass rigging area.
If you want to go to kite beach etc. you will need a car for the 20 min cross island trip.
Oh yes,and Kihei gets HELL windy!! Once again,you will need a 7 or 8 to get the full benifet /
