Point of the storey? DOnt blame the instructors they more often than not pressured to take a lessons in places they preferrably would not, as exterior pressures often exist.
Plus also, its a shame to read two pretty nice guys slating each other.

See how the mere mention of money is somehow justification for risk ?
So, in order to avoid bankruptcy, these cowboy 'schools' just send out the newbies in nuking winds,
to hell with the consequences.
Kite-school cred just got flushed down the sewer with that cavalier statement.
Don't pay good money for this crap, get your mates to teach you how to kite.
When there's no money involved, safety and fun are the top priorities.

Hey Slave,
Just back from OS and read this post of yours. Pretty disappointed by your comments really, especially since you have obviously no idea of the teaching method of the schools who do teach in 30 knots in Maui.
I have conducted a week long course in Maui and have seen innovative methods and techniques of teaching in 30 knots which are totally safe and are quite different to "normal" teaching methods.
To suggest that people just go out and have lessons from their friends is ridiculous, especially if their friends are self taught. Nothing like passing on bad habits.
Some schools are better than others, obviously as it comes down to the Instructor as to how he/she teaches and also the location of the lessons.
The more people who learn from good IKO trained instructors the better the sports chance for avoiding grief in the future thru reckless behaviour from the irresponsible and careless.
Steady winds to ALL,
