For those of us who don't speak Portuguese/Spanish, was that tree broken by the kitesurfer too? Looks like a kitesurfer shaped dent in the wall, that's pretty clear.

This is very sad news! I saw the topic on kite forum this morning.

Lets hope the family and friends of this kiter have got a heap of support and love to get them thru this terrible time.

below is the english translation:

The doctor neuropediatra Alexandre Alves Cerqueira, 33, died on the afternoon of Saturday, in Praia da Pajuçara, after suffering a serious accident, when practiced Kitesurfing, which is a mixture of wind to ski, wakeboard, surf and free flight.

According to testesmunhas, after sliding on the water in a plate, he was pulled by Kit, lost control, crashed on almond, a tent on the Fair of Pajuçara and then the asphalt of Avenida Sílvio Viana.

Victim of a cardio-respiratory stop, he still has to be socorrido by a unit of the Military Fire Brigade of Alagoas (CBM / LA) and was led by the Office of the Emergency Care Mobile (Samu) for the Emergency Unit of Dr. Armando Lages, in serious condition, but died on the way.

Devido ao forte impacto na barraca da Feirinha da Pajuçara, a vendedora Anita Silva, 70 anos, que estava no estabelecimento comercial, foi arremessada para fora, sofrendo ferimentos leves. Due to strong impact in the tent of the Pajuçara Fair, the seller Anita Silva, 70 years old, who was in the store, was thrown out, suffering light injuries. Ela também foi socorrida por militares do CBM/AL, medicada e passa bem. She was also socorrida by the military CBM / LA, medicada and passes well.

Hi all,

To all the noobs who ask me whether they should go out in winter, this is the reason I say no. Wait until you have had a year or two under your belt before taking on winter winds.

Thankfully we haven't had a fatality in Oz for a little while now. PLease remember to be careful until the seabreezes return.

To all Pinnaroo Point riders - especially you noobs and less experienced kiters. Be extra careful when landing and launching your kite as the council has added a pine log fence with wire along the entire beach. I have taken photos and written to the council and spoken with them on the phone about the issues and threat this holds to kitesurfers and am trying to get them to take it down.

I will post more on any progress I make. If we can get the fence removed or changed for something safer at Pinnaroo, it will make it easier to get the fence removed or changed at Mullaloo as it is a similar problem up there too.

Good winds,

That is tragic. The pics are gruesome. I don't want to see kite surfers lying in the street surrounded by buildings bleeding out. At least with sand you stand a chance if you get sent.

Be careful out there people.

Hey Darren, is the one at Pinnas still lying down where it goes around the point to the dog beach? Some clever people who put it there hey? If the council don't remove it it might wash away before Summer anyway.

I'd say he pruned the tree and took the branch with him all the way to the brick wall which he hit so hard it killed him. He then got flung into the the tent "wall" which would not have caused as much injury, but its noteworthy that the impact into the tent "wall" injured the 70yo guy on the other side of it.

Unfortunately no one has thought to analyse & publish what happened for the rest of us. You could only conclude at this stage that kiting just upwind of buildings or walls in strong winds is a fatally stupid thing to do.

DUHHH...there's a simpler solution, you know! Why try to make the entire world safe for kiting? All you have to do is NOT KITE!! Bet you never thought of that!!
