im a newbie and a part from a few minor misshaps (see other threads) have been loving kiting, anyway i was pretty careful inregards to buying my gear anyuu way to the point i got my kite from a shop and the de power did noit work at all it took me bout 5 weeks so figure this out even after my great indtructor had a shot at it he didnt notice speacial thanks to dys for rigging a new one up for me,

moral: be very careful when buying 2nd hand gear even from shops

dont ask what shop i got it from... it could have been a one off who knows

You talkin to me mate??
I guess so, do you mean that the strap was slipping, so that you could not actually depower the kite?

I guess thats one of the issues with buying used gear, some thinks cannot be checked until they are under load.

lol not you steve but yes and yes there was nothing and its the risk but i still like the idea of buying a average kite for 270 buks instead of 14 19 hundred ... ahhhh the student life

i had a very similar problem - but whilst im a newb also it only took two outings to know it wasn'y holding and depowering. You can replace these depower straps quite easily by taking it to a shop and handing over some cash This is something that you can only blame yourself for not picking up on the problem - i mean for a couple of hundred bucks your always going to run into a few hurdles.
