Well,

After a season on a directional board - I feel the need to get a much smaller and modern board.

Im 80kg, and sail mostly at Melville

What length and width should i look for,

any particular shapes etc etc, brands ??

Im fairly competent on the directional, can gibe it, get air etc etc, so looking for something to take me into the intermediate/advances area of kiting,

Thanks for any tips in advance.

oh yeah - only want to spend say $400 to $500

IMO Slingshot SX132 are pretty damn good boards great for gettin upwind, get up on the plane easy & perfect for your size. Might get a second hand one round that price if your lucky?
If you want something with a lot of flex & pop go for an Underground FLX 132 Both these boards are around $1000 new.

Hi Loose Fin,
I would have thought something slightly bigger might be better all round for your body weight and also as your first twin tip. Something 135-140 long and at least 38cm wide. People often talk about board lengths without reference to width when in actual fact width is equally if not more important in determining how a board handles. These dimensions are presuming you have a 12m jite which I'd expect you do at 80kg. If your kite is bigger you could go a smaller board. If your kite is smaller definitely look at larger boards.

Jess is dead right about considering the width, 1cm of width is roughly the same as 5cm length in terms of surface area.

cheers
