everybody, just wanted to know what people thought of various boards. i only weigh bout 65kg and whenever the wind gets up i get carted downwind on my 138 wake style board even though i still am holding my rail- delivers alot of power really quickly. Have used a Delta CRX a few times and like the way they ride and hold down the power but am interested in what others think

G'Day Punchy,

For probvlems of overpowered there are only really a couple of options for a guy of your weight. For an allrounder for you, the Airush Protoy is kickass! For a heavier bloke like myself, it feels a bit small unless powered in good conditions.

For ultimate grip and handling in the overpowered stuff, there is nothing as sweet as a 133 Compact also by Airush. I still favour my 133 Compact in the big stuff and it really works well at speed, in chop, in big surf and is light enough in the air too!

Check one out. Airborne have demos you can grab for a couple of days and test. If it costs you nothing you'd be mad not to give it a go huh?

Hope this helps.

i think punchy is more wanting a good board for the relitivly flat water we have here in australind. i think a more ocean orientated board would be a waste of time and money

for what its worth, some recent boards ive been on

north dragons: nice enough, but slow. nice on flat water. too many fins. very easy to land jumps.

north defenders: similar to dragons, bit faster, nice upwind. dont really like them.

north jamie pro 218: awesome. super light. super fast. only thing i dont like is they stall in carve turns a bit, so if you dont get the kite picture perfect you sink too much. fins are hell sharp.

caution redline 132: on it now. very very very happy. not quite as light as jamie pro but light enough. maybe a shade slower than jamie pro but the carving/turns are super nice, very smooth. all yellow underside help visibility a lot too.

try as many boards as you can before you buy.

Im 5kg lighter than you and often find that same problem, of getting overpowered. Kite, board and wind conditions of course play a factor in feeling less controlled of your ride.
One of the smoothest fastest and great all rounder for me was the Naish 122TT pro 2003-2004. This board has a centre fin on the heel side combined with a soft rounded rail design. The two combination compliments each other to create a woohoo affect on your riding. Jason Lewis has this board in his shop for $700, of course this board is not for everyones style, but for feather weight guys flying a 12mt in 18-22knts is easy. The other option is to try the square wall rails design like what Jans been riding, almost every brand has got one now. Kaos being the cheaper alternative. I wouldn't bother with the airush compact maybe the pro toy, for under 65kg.

Used 147 Slingshot Asylum wake for 2 years, bolt up some full wrap bindings and you can hold that rail to the max, (me 75 KG, 12m, 30 Knots)Give it a shot, bindings heaps cheaper than a new board and you can practice being Lou or Elliot!!!

Yo Punchy,

I prolly told you this already, but in my personal opinion in my personal opinion the Underground Wave Tray is the best all round board. A lot of the crew at cott use them for waveriding and absolutely love them. Guys like Dan totally rip on them in flat water freestyle also, as they edge so good and plane early compared to a similar sized board.

The Addictions are awesome too, similar to the Wave Tray. Pete is onto a good thing, and his new boards look sick also.

Another one is the Undergroung FLX (I think there is another thread about them) They are even better for choppy water and freestyle, but I have'nt heard anything about them in waves, I'm sure they would be awesome though.

Hope this helps,

L

65kg go a pro toy. i weigh 85 kgs and i rode it as an only board all summer. 119 x 39 wide planes super early for its size and being only 119 can hold a heap of wind. grab a demo from airbourne and u will be hooked. see ya on the water

cheers fellas, might pass on the idea of full bindings but. getting the board off in a hurry probably be a bit difficult. i like being able to walk and am not real keen on snapping my ankles.
as for all the boards will prob have to make a trip up to perth one day when there is wind? and demo a few

stick with delta
marty will make anything you want
have ac tt 138x38 and mutant thruster 158x39 each with subtle modifications
perfect duo
plenty of good stuff now, imo light weight, flex a bit and concave
important issues
size depends on wind strength - go a bit narrower for higher winds

Punchy, I think the main thing to consider here is your weight and if your still giving up ground on a 138 you need to down size your board I suggest nothing larger than a 125 for decent conditions and probably a 120 would be about right for you. If your going to use it in waves or chop make sure its got a bit of kicker on each end with a well defined release edge or steep enough departure angle so it doesn't suck onto the water at the back. I'm a bit heavier than you (about 74) and just finishing a carbon & kevlar 120 I'm building so I hope my theory is right and its not too small.

Jamie.
