Don't worry Ryan.
You are not alone, I just got last night my shoulder reconstructed - three months out of action
And that after two other months after the accident.
Just take it easy, give it the time to recover, and you'll be back on the water next season.
Do not try to hurry up the nature, it is not quite working

Don't Rush it give it time and get a good phsyio. Your not going to use your leg for at least month (or you shouldn't be putting any presure/weight on it at all) so your going to have to build the leg muscles back up. ****y deal hope the recovery goes well.

Good news is that they put a plate in. I broke my fibula a few years ago paragliding and it was only in a cast for a few weeks as they put in a plate. Had they not put a plate in I would have been in plaster for 6-8 weeks. I could walk with crutches and then a stick a few weeks after the accident and it wasn't long until I was back to normal again. Can't tell you exactly how long as it was a few years ago. I was also lucky as there was no tendon damage which is what can screw up getting back on your feet (literally) again.

These ranges are quite right for a 70 kg "skiny" kitesurfer, not for a well "formed", 90 - 100 kg.
So, you should take them in the context

I didnt break as bad as you, your a bit weak.

3 or 4 months.

Try to get your toes /ankle moving asap. No weight.

Keep the swelling down you cant see. Foot higher than your heart more than 1/2 the time.

Be mellow, relax, bong on

Broke left fibia at ankle joint in January. Had to have it rebroken as it was mending all wrong. Had two plates a rod and screws put in last week, and am looking forward to another 6 weeks in plaster before they take the rod out. So I'm tipping I won't be back until winter testing. Anyone reommend good bindings that have good support and are comfy?

Your telling me a 13m kite is acceptable in 25 knots? I ride my 6m.... and im not that light... Just throwing a suggestion as to a possible cause for injury, it sounds like the wrong kite was in the air??? Or 25knots in the story = 18knots in reality...

red how are you mate ? from what i have been told by mates who have kited in wa is they often fly smaller kites in thecooler dencer air. as for the wind i was out in , it was between 18-26kts all day , my kite was one of the smallest out 14 octane , 14 waroo ,i chose my kite feeling it was the right choice , and will still use it . as for a 6m in 25kts on a surfboard would be great

I am, using a 16m C-bow up to 20knots (where gusts can reach 25).
As a matter of fact, I was accidentally in a gusty Northerly, way over 25 knots(spray was getting of the top of the waves and some sand was blowing away on the beach}, and with the bar in the over ride area, I was able to take the gust an recover when the wind settled. But it was not so funny, and I hope it will not happen again.

I can hold my 12m bow to about 25kts (according to my wind meter on the beach) where I live and im 72kg.

I put up the same kite in capetown a few months ago and after 5min with it 100% depowered a gust hit and I lost my edge and let go of the bar and was still lifted 3-4m over the water. same wind meter I use at home said it was 16kts that day. only time i ever felt out of control and and visions of ending up in the car park.

better just to go on what size the majority of other kiters are using. if everyone else looks powered on a 3m I dont care if someone tells me its only 15kts ill still put up my smallest kite.

Hey Ryan,

A friend of mine, Dangerous Dave (the original) was kiting at Dolls Point many years ago. On this day Dave mastered a whole run on his toeside edge. He was so stoked he came in to the beach to soak up the moment and tell a few friends. In his euphoria he neglected to notice he was 8 metres upwind of the rock groyne.

D Daves kite luffed and before he knew what was happening it fell back in the wind window and powered up (luff bang). Dave flew through the air and landed on the rocks full force on his hip and thigh . He compound fractured his Femur and then was flung downwind and landed on or near the Kitepower Jetski on the beach .

Dave's Femur was reset with many pins and screws and plates and stuff with lovely metal bits protruding from his skin for weeks between his ankle and his hip. He spiral fractured the Femur and after 6 weeks the bone had not knitted together properly, so after several operations the break is so bad and causes so much discomfort that Dave still walks with a limp years later and to the best of my knowledge he never kited again. He became an avid kitesurf photog.

Bummer about your leg, but compared to Dave, you got a minor scratch.

Good winds, you'll be back before you know it,

Rude Toby,
Do you think that being rude, is giving you more credibility, or people will cheer you for this?
Did you run out of all other arguments?
Or is this all your brain can produce?
Shame on you Toby
