Kitesurfing - Riding waves on either twin tip or surfboard.

Kiteboarding;-
Freeriding - Just riding around having general fun
Freestyling - Old School - Big Boosts, board offs, rolls and anything huge!
Freestyling - Wake Style - Wake type tricks generally with kite lower than 45 deg.
Freestyle - New School - Large kite loops with handle passes and advanced wake style
Slalom and Race - Slalom and racing around buoys
Kite cross - racing around floating obstacles
Kite Park riding - Sliders, kickers and other apparatus

Kook Style - Having no lessons, crashing on launch, kareening off out of control taking out others and then smashing the kite on the beach after draggging through the red/yellow flags on the surf beaches. Most often whilst wearing a seat harness, helmet, impact vest, Reel leash and flying a very old kite with no safety and having a couple of laughing clueless buddies in tow.

For the record I do wear a seat harness, helmet, impact vest, Reel leash and the other day for sumpin differant did a downwinder flying a very old kite (2002 Naish), rigged with 5th line though - I'm not a superkook just yet.

I have though, inexplicably cut down on the crashing on launch, kareening off out of control taking out others and then smashing the kite on the beach after draggging through the red/yellow flags on the surf beaches as my experience has grown. This has been disapointing as I don't have anywhere near the adrenalin bursts as I used to...

I think you can class wake style as riding in bindings as even at comps if you hit the tricks or not unless your wearing bindings the judges don't seem to see them..
I think kite position is largely irrelevent as most people really don't truley know how high they have there kite when they throw the trick only when there riding..
Sliders and kickers are true wake style and unhooking throwing tricks fast and powered not hooked in..

Freestyle these days is were true kite riding for freestyle is developing as it uses everything hooked, unhooked, handle passes style, kite position, power with loops, variety with board offs etc

Wave is it's own category as well with being open to every possibilty you can imagine, twin tip , surfboard, mutant, hooked, unhooked, even handle passes
