how more core and all round awesome would kiteflying be if there was no cheating. e.g. sending your kite before you crash to avoid hard landing.

The question here is from whom point of view:
the "crowd" sitting on the beach, with a beer in their hands, watching at the "poor bugger" getting hurt,
the ambulance crew getting bothered to get you to the hospital,
or yourself in pain?

Sorry God, but in the past this kind of behaviour had a name: masochism.

And I think the insurance is not covering “self inflicted” accidents.

I still think the majority of us, wants to live happy, and healthy, whilst having fun on the water.
