I'd try a bit laundry detergent made for delicate clothing, and then next time buy a kite that isn't white.

There is a big long post on this from a year back or so if you care to look it up lots of options

My favourite is water just mildly soaped up with a bar of normal bath soap applied with an old towel, then a fresh rinse before drying.

go to your local dive shop and get some "gear wash"
specially designed to be kind to fabrics and thread, etc...
not as harsh as any domestic type cleaning agents.

use it sparingly and it lasts for ages too

It's also really good for wetsuits, harnesses, bar and lines, etc

IMO A decent branded car wash. Why?

Generally decent branded car washed are PH neutral, Guys dont want a PH heavy was thats going to strip the polish and sealents of there car.

Personally i havnt tried this, havnt had a kite that dirty.

But I see it being safer than some of the stuff mentioned here.

Thats what I use too, I have found the towel is the most important part, soak it well and use the soap sparingly.
i use the end of the bar of soap apply it directly to the towel first so you get a kind of pasty cream on the towel ( get your mind out of the gutter ) then rub it in a circular motion using the very light abrasive properties of the towel fabric. Do not lay your kite on the ground when doing this as you will cause wear on the opposite side of your canopy, support the opposite side with your hand or lay it over another towel. Rinse and let dry or go ride and try a few moves you know you wont make.
Most stains will come off fairly easily although the rust stain on my Fuel is proving very stubborn ( thanks to the supposed stainless steel wave grenade pin )

Once clean, don't forget to make sure it's really dry before putting it away. Fresh water will encourage mould to grow and that is a real pain to remove.
