was at broad water couple of days ago. Was riding a 15m, the kite was slopy (leak) and i was in a****ty mood not concentrating. Wind jumped to 25 knots and i thought i would be a smart arse and tried to get back to the take off spot. Was walking kite back (it was still up)it got real hard to make ground. My mind just turned off and i found myself tring to drop the kite with a aim to rest and think about my next move.

It relaunched and swerved beach side over a fence into the park. I could not see the kite cause the fence was blocking my view but i knew it would relaunch. It did and i was being draged through the air toward this fence. Managed to steer kite back around onto the sand and was dragged through a huge soft sand pile(very very lucky) and someone grabbed the kite.

I was a total idiot and am lucky to be alive. Thing is, been kiting awhile now and confidence is high but where i kite you mostly have someone to grab your kite and it is not often the wind really starts to increase at this time in the arvo. I was angry in a ****ty mood and was not thinking- it almost cost me dearly.

To all beginners and knew intermediates out there do not forget to pull the emergency release before repeat before the emergency happens. Once the **** hits the fan it is to late. If the wind has jumped and you feel trapped and your loosing controll. Pull the release thats what it is there fore. It could save your life.

yes - its what the release is for - someone got dragged over the spit at wello a couple of days back, asked why he didnt pull the release he said he didnt think about it. he had never pulled the quick release, ever. personally, i'd prefer a few dings in the kite to in my head (which this guy had )

Yes i had to release my kite into some trees the other day, i was being really stupid & lazy and not untwisting my lines after spinning around (like i normally would) It got to a point where i did'nt know which way i had to spin the bar to untwist the lines.
So i just gave it a big spin in one direction (the wrong way of coarse & my lines got more twisted) I had stopped in the water by this time, so I grabbed the bar again and by this time the lines were so twisted they were really catching together. it made it hard to steer the kite, which was flying to the right side by now. I tugged left on the bar to bring the kite back up to the neutral position. But the bar just stuck there to the left, because of the twisted lines. The kite began to do a big powerful loop... So by this time i had stopped in the water about 20meters from shore, board still on my feet, bar stuck hard to the left and the kite heading into a loop which i was to late to take any control over. As soon as i felt the bar stick there and the kite beginning to loop, i knew i was in for it. It yanked me forward and over the board and i was heading toward the shore. I reached down and pulled the safety as soon as i could. But by this time i had been dragged right up to the sand and I stopped about 5 meters from a retaining wall. I was riding with a suicide leash so when i pulled the saftey it completely dumped the whole rig. I watched my kite fly off into the trees, which i am glad were there, otherwise my kite would have travelled a lot further downwind over some rocks, past a canal and into someones backyard....
So this whole incedent, which could have been worse, would have been avoided if i wasn't being so lazy & half arsed. I was very lucky no-one was in the way of me, the kite, or the lines. I'm lucky all i recieved was a battered ego & a small hole from the trees in my kite. I'd had a **** day and was probably not in the best mood to be out kiting, because i wasn't thinking 100% about what i was doing.
The next day i focused myself, took my time and ended up having the best session i've ever had kiting.
