i'm a businessman and can't stand this rubbish.
Lets say a kite costs $800 and sells for $1800. They're making $1000!! what a rip off!
a) you only get to sell them for 3 to 4 months over summer.
b) you have to pay to keep the shop rent paid for 12 months.
c) you employ staff
d) you don't have another job to keep your business open
e) you pay to advertise in glossy mags & web sites
f) you get stuck with stock that doesn't/won't sell that you have to sell for less that you bought it for.
fair go! If it was such a big money spinner, why is everybody is working as employees rather than running businesses?
it takes balls to run a company and put 10's of thousands of dollars on the line each year to commit to stock purchases.
There's more to the price of a kite that "retail-cost" maths.

In the end its the retailers choice to open a shop.
Its their choice to sell kites at $2000
and it's my choice not to buy kites at rip off prices.

Do you apply your anti commerce, anti profit/fair go priciples to everything you own or buy?

Try investing 400 grand and seeing a nett return of around 7c in the dollar, working 7 days a week, making sure everyone except yourself gets to kite. Try paying all the wages, taxes, and live in a country and city that has incredible facilities, like paved roads, police, ambos, health care, safety net minimum wages and unemployment benefits, soc sec benefits, pensions. Its not a perfect system, but if you don't like it contribute more to make changes, illogical whining on forums hiding behind anonymity will not change a thing.
Don't want or need any sympathy I love what I do, but thats the reality of it.

Rip-off is such a subjective term isn't it?.
Do you apply your anti commerce, anti profit/fair go priciples to everything you own or buy?
How about a pair of jeans or shorts, do you realise they are made in the same asian factories and only "cost" a few dollars compared to the $100 or more people pay for them in shops.
Maccas food, the biggest cost component is wages, how much do you think the ingredients in a cheeseburger cost?? Do you complain, do you boycott all retail outlets?
I can buy t-shirts for around $7-9 before I get them screenprinted, they are the same quality as ones I see retailing in shops with brands like Von Dutch and Cult prints on them for $50 to $80.
If you apply ther same stringent standards to everything you own or buy then you would not be hypocritical, but I have never met anyone who is that principled and disciplined. Its a commercial world we live in.
Try telling the 10 people who are employed by Kitepower that we are a rip off. And it is a negative persons CHOICE to be dumb about reality, and blame someone else for all their problems, including prices they pay for anything................
No one is holding guns to peoples heads in this country to force them to buy anything.
Anonymous whining is completely stupid behaviour.

not going to reply to the egroups bit?
Does it sound like im having a sad?
No, what im saying is. No rip off shops will get my business when they offer nothing for me.
Yeah advertising is a cost- I dont get anything out of the shops advertising
Shops sponsering riders- I dont get anything out of shops sponsering riders
etc etc etc
All I want is a good kite for the cheapest price.
