How to Play Golf

Golf is a sport that you can play from childhood through your golden years. This sport enables you to spend time outside and enjoy the weather while getting a little exercise. Golf is not an easy sport to learn, however. It takes patience and a good attitude. With practice, golf can provide many enjoyable afternoons spent with family and friends.

Step 1 Purchase or borrow a set of golf clubs. Golf clubs can be expensive, but if you are just starting out, you do not need the top of the line.
Step 2 Sign up for a golf lesson from your local PGA professional. Taking a few minutes to learn the basics can make a big difference in your game.
Step 3 Learn the rules. Before you venture out onto a golf course, make sure you know the basic etiquette of golf. Many clubs have rules about wearing collared shirts and no jeans.
Step 4 Start with the grip. Grip the club in your left hand with your thumb extended down the shaft. Place your right hand on the club with your right pinkie finger overlapping or interlocking with your left index finger. The club should rest in your fingers.
Step 5 Make sure you are lined up correctly. The club face should be aimed at your target. Your feet should make a line that is parallel to where you would like the ball to go.
Step 6 Swing the club back and turn your shoulders. Try not to stand up straight as you turn. Remember that taking the club back fast does not equate to hitting it a long way.
Step 7 Finish your swing. Shift your weight to your left side and swing the club back through the ball.

Step 8 Watch the ball go completely where you did not want it to go.
Step 9 Walk into the scrub where you thought the ball went.
Step 10 Curse and mutter under your breath while stomping the ground
Step 11 Give up looking for the ball, take a drop shot and wear a 1 stroke penalty
Step 12 Give up and go to the 19th hole and enjoy yourself.

I agree with Winston Churchill on this, a little white ball wrecking a good walk. I have played 2 games of golf in my life, the first and the last, lost more balls than there where fairways on the course.

Thought I would take it up once upon a time long ago in another life.
Won a trip to Singapore, bought clubs, went to some swank club on an island. Lost several balls on the 3rd tee, into the sea or down the side of a cliff, but I was still withing sight of the clubhouse. Bought a dozen more, by the time I had gotten to the 1oth had lost all of them too, then discovered the 19th was air conditioned...................

The best part of golf is hitting the ball. The ironic part of golf is the better you get, the less you get to hit the ball.

Yes golf is expensive and frustrating. If you want to have fun at golf, drink a beer every hole and play ambrose. By the time you hit the back 9, your pretty much wasted and it's more about chugging beers than playing golf!

By the time you If you reach the 18th, you don't need the 19th!

If you like golf ie hitting balls, go to a driving range. Hire a driver and belt the sh1t out of a bucket of balls and then laugh as someone else gets to go find and retrieve 'em for you. If you're lucky, you get the ball dudes running around on the range collecting balls, that way you get human targets. There is no greater fun! LOL.

Golf is for executives without the skills to kite!

Good winds,

Golf makes me angry. Can't play unless I'm pissed. Don't hook unless there's water on the left but I can slice with infuriating regularity.

Tried playing with a social club but nearly went broke from shouting beers!
Always got the snake (last 3 putt of the round) always held the wombat (4 putt) never got under 100 and looked gay in those stupid spiky shoes.

So I wrapped my 4 shovel around a tree, threw my 3 iron in the dam and dropped all my stuff to my mates house and told him I don't want it back.

I hates golf....

IMO golfing and kiting are mutually exclusive activities.

My mates and i play a game closely related to golf called "Whack F**K". It's called that because that's what's heard every time the ball is hit.

I don't mind golf if I only play 9 holes and go with a decent bunch of guys, plus I only play whe there's no wind anyway when I'm bored because I can't kite.

Pub golf is the only golf.
Rules:
18 pubs... 1 drink at each. Decide par beforehand.
Par 4 - drink your drink in 4 gulps etc. Course maps are mandatory, as are plus4s.
Slow players are left behind.

Or shot.

I agree with Charl DV, it sounds great but what if your town only has one pub and the next one is 3 hours drive away?

A three hour break would probably bring this game into the realms of responsible drinking and that's kinda sad. I suppose there'd be no fighting over the designated driver though......

You play it between your mates houses, or between dongas.
with appropriate amounts of 6 packs or cartons etc. on ice prior to round starting.
